Direct Trains Soon from Gorakhpur to Katra, Srinagar, Haridwar, and Goa

To enhance connectivity and address the escalating demands of travelers, the North Eastern Railway headquarters in Gorakhpur has unveiled proposals for several new train services. These proposals aim to establish direct links between various cities in Purvanchal (eastern Uttar Pradesh) and key pilgrimage and tourist destinations.

Direct Trains from Gorakhpur to Srinagar

Direct Train Service to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar

At the forefront of the proposal is the introduction of a new weekly train service, numbered 15067/15068, directly connecting Gorakhpur to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Furthermore, plans are underway to extend this service to Srinagar upon the completion of a new railway line currently under construction. This initiative seeks to provide convenient travel options for pilgrims and tourists from the Purvanchal region to these revered destinations.

Expansion of Train Services Across 14 Routes

In addition to the aforementioned destinations, the Railway administration has initiated plans for new daily and weekly trains across 14 routes. Among these proposals is a new weekly train, numbered 15023/15024, connecting Gorakhpur with Haridwar or Dehradun, facilitating easier access to these popular pilgrimage sites. Moreover, plans are in place for a new train service from Gorakhpur to Margao in Goa, catering to the increasing number of pilgrims traveling to Ujjain and Goa for pilgrimage to the Mahakaleshwar Temple.

Boosting Connectivity with Varanasi to Dohrighat MEMU Train

In a bid to enhance connectivity further, a new MEMU train service from Varanasi to Dohrighat is also proposed. Routes and timetables for this service are yet to be finalized, pending discussions at the Indian Railway Time Table Committee meeting scheduled from April 10 to 12 in Jaipur. Once approved, these train services will significantly improve connectivity in the region, providing smoother travel experiences for commuters.

Growing Demand for Direct Trains

Currently, the Purvanchal region lacks direct train services to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Kashmir, with the only existing connection being the Amarnath Express number 12587, operating from Gorakhpur to Jammu Tawi on Mondays. Other available trains originate from Bhagalpur and other stations, with limited services from Gorakhpur to Dehradun on Wednesdays and Fridays, and one service extending to Muzaffarpur via Gorakhpur on Mondays. The rising demand for direct trains to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Dehradun, Haridwar, and Goa highlights the urgent need for improved rail infrastructure to meet the region's growing travel needs.

With the announcement of these new train services, the North Eastern Railway aims to bridge existing connectivity gaps and provide more accessible travel options for residents and pilgrims in the Purvanchal region. These initiatives underscore the commitment towards enhancing rail infrastructure and catering to the evolving needs of travelers in Uttar Pradesh.
