The historic town of Hangal was the stronghold of Kadambas. Later, the Chalukyas took over this ancient town. Today, we get to see the architectural heritage belonging to these dynasties in Hangal. Tarakeshwara Temple, Veerabhadra Temple, Jain Temple and Billeshwara Temple are the four major attractions in Hangal. Among them, Tarakeshwara Temple is dedicated to Shiva and is one of the prime temples of Chalukyan architecture. Tarakeshwara Temple is adorned with beautiful sculptures and carvings which depict the mythological tales. Especially, the scenes portraying the epic Ramayana are a big attraction here. Tarakeshwara Temple is a fusion of Dravidian and Nagara styles of architecture. So, Hangal is a must-visit place which is around 40 km from the town of Haveri.
