Must Visit Unakoti: Famous Heritage Site In India
Unakoti is one of the prominent tourist places and a famous pilgrimage site in Kailashahr, Tripura.
These rock-cut sculptures dates back to 7th - 9th Century.
According to the legends, Lord Shiva and his mates rested here on their way to Kashi.
Since the mates were not ready to move the next day, Shiva cursed them and turned them into rock.
Thus people believe that these are not just murals. They are gods.
Unakoti is a protected heritage site of India and is preserved by the ASI.
Many people gather here annually, especially during the celebrations of the Ashokastami Fair.
Unakoti is 145km away from Agartala.
