The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will operate additional buses from August 27 to August 30 to manage the expected increase in passenger demand. The special services have been arranged because of the weekend holidays and several wedding-related journeys, which are likely to result in heavy passenger movement across the state.
Tamil Nadu's Special Buses
On August 27, around 380 special buses will operate from the Kilambakkam bus terminus to several destinations including Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur. The number of services will increase further over the next two days. Around 1,140 buses will be operated from Kilambakkam on August 28, while 1,020 buses will run on August 29 to the same destinations.
Additional services will also be available from other bus terminals in Chennai. From Koyambedu, 130 buses will operate each day from August 27 to 29 towards Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur and Bengaluru. From Madhavaram, another 90 buses will be operated each day during the same period. Special services will also connect Bengaluru, Tiruppur, Erode and Coimbatore with various destinations. Around 200 buses will be operated on these routes during the three days.
Moreover, TNSTC will operate around 690 buses to Chennai on Sunday from different parts of Tamil Nadu to handle the return rush after the weekend.
According to a TNSTC press release, the additional buses are being introduced to help passengers travel comfortably and avoid the rush usually seen during busy holiday periods. Passengers have also been advised to make reservations wherever possible to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
