Recently in Kashmir, heavy fresh snowfall blanketed many areas, covering towns, hills, and valleys with thick white snow. Places like Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Shopian, Pulwama, Bandipora, Anantnag, and Kulgam saw snowfall, and even Srinagar city experienced the season's first snow. The weather made travel difficult, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was

closed, and several flights were cancelled due to the harsh conditions.
Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Through Winter Landscapes
Despite this, train services continued normally in the valley. Railway workers from Northern Railway's Jammu Division worked consistently to clear snow from the tracks and make sure trains could run safely. Photographs shared by railway officials showed the orange-and-grey Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express moving smoothly through snow-covered tracks, creating stunning winter scenes that were widely shared and admired.
Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express
The Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2025 and is a fast, modern train connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra with Srinagar. It crosses impressive structures like the Chenab and Anji bridges and makes the trip in about three hours, saving passengers two to three hours compared to earlier options.
Two Vande Bharat Trains
Currently, two Vande Bharat trains operate on this route: train numbers 26402/26401 and 26404/26403. Both began regular service in June 2025. On the journey between Katra and Srinagar, the train stops at Reasi and Banihal stations. It has eight coaches with both Chair Car and Executive Chair Car seats for travellers.
Moreover, even with heavy snowfall in Kashmir, rail travel has continued without major issues, and the Vande Bharat Express provided passengers with a memorable and scenic snow journey through the valley.
