People travelling in eastern Uttar Pradesh have something to look forward to. The much-awaited Gorakhpur Link Expressway will open to the public on June 20. This 91-km expressway is not just about faster travel-it also brings a strong focus on commuter safety. On the same day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also launch a new safety fleet to protect travellers.

Safety Fleet to Watch Over the Highway
According to Rajesh Pandey from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the expressway will have a team of vehicles to ensure help is always nearby. This fleet will include five Innovas, five Campers, four ambulances, two cranes, and one hydra vehicle.
The Innovas will patrol the expressway non-stop, in 8-hour shifts, with four ex-servicemen on each one. These trained personnel will be ready to respond quickly if anything goes wrong on the road. The camper vehicles are specially designed for emergencies. They have open backs and carry items like traffic cones, ropes, and radium strips to make accident areas safe and visible.
Medical Help Every 45 km
To make sure people get help quickly during a medical emergency, ambulances will be placed every 45 km along the expressway. Cranes will also be available at similar intervals to move broken-down vehicles. A hydra vehicle will cover the entire stretch to lift and clear larger vehicles when needed.
If any small or medium vehicle breaks down, the cranes will move it off the road. For larger vehicles, the removal will be done using the nearest chainage point, following the rules of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Smart Technology to Keep You Safe
The expressway will also have a smart Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), just like the one on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. This system will use modern technology to monitor the road 24/7.
CCTV cameras will be installed every 5 km and watched from a central control room. Speed cameras and number plate readers (NPRs) will catch rule breakers. If someone drives too fast, the system will alert the district's ARTO (Assistant Regional Transport Officer) for quick action.
A Safer and Smoother Journey for All
These safety steps show the government's effort to give people a smooth and safe driving experience. With strong security and quick response systems, the Gorakhpur Link Expressway promises to become a model road for modern and responsible travel in the state.
