The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has increased the speed of construction work on the Agra Metro project. This push comes after the government gave fresh instructions to complete the first metro corridor by December. The Agra Metro project is expected to change how people travel in the city, offering a faster and smoother ride while helping reduce traffic jams and long travel hours.

Delays due to NOC permissions
The project had earlier slowed down due to some problems. One major issue was getting the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from different departments, which delayed the work by six to eight months. The NOC for tunnel digging took around three months because of issues with the railway line. Also, construction of three elevated metro stations was delayed due to late permission from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which took about five to six months to approve.
Tunnel and station construction in progress
Even with these problems, UPMRC has finished some of the most important parts of the metro line. The tunnels near Agra College, Raja Ki Mandi station, and RBS station are now complete. Now, the main focus is on laying tracks between RBS and Agra station. Workers are building a strong concrete base, which is a key step before the tracks can be placed. At the ISBT station, the supporting pillars are ready, and U-girders are being installed to continue the next phase of the construction.
Revised deadlines and future plans
Arvind Rai, the Project Director of UPMRC, shared updates about the expected timeline. He said that the original plan was to finish the first corridor by December 2025. But because of the delays with permissions, the new goal is to complete it by March next year. He also said that the second corridor will be ready by 2027.
Currently, around 800 meters of tunnel digging is left between SN College and Mankameshwar station. Once that is completed, the structural part of the first metro corridor will be close to completion.
The Agra Metro is seen as a major solution for traffic problems in the city. Once completed, it will make daily travel easier for thousands of people. Even though the project faced many delays, the construction work is now moving forward quickly, and the people of Agra can expect a better and more comfortable public transport system in the coming years.
