Vishwanath Temple is the main and the most visited temple of Guptkashi, a religious town in Rudraprayag district. The divine temple is dedicated to the lord Shiva and resembles the architectural style of the temple of kedarnath. The temple's structure is built using stones from around the region. On the door of the temple, an image of lord Bhairav- an avatar of the lord shiva, can be seen. Just like kedarnath temple, this temple also has slanting roofs and a tower over the main sanctum. On the entrance carved statue of Nadi ji, the bull vahana of lord Shiva is sitting in the temple as a gatekeeper.
According to famous and well-acknowledged mythology, the place where the temple is situated is the place where lord shiva proposed to mata (mother) Parvati for marriage.
