Darshan of 6 Ganesha Temples in a Day

Ganesha temples are frequently visited by the Hindu community as it is believed that Lord Ganesha brings luck to His devotees. For the same reason, many Hindus seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha before starting anything new in their lives so that the new venture is successful and obstacle-free.

A large number of Ganesha temples are spread across many parts of India. The beautiful coastline that stretches from Kasargod in Kerala to Gokarna in Karnataka is a path that is known for its natural beauty and scenic views. Despite the refreshing beauty that the coastline offers, there are several Ganesha temples that one could visit on a trip to the place. This stretch of 300 km takes us to 6 Ganesha temples along the coastline.

The first among the 6 Ganesha temples is located near Kasargode in Kerala. The Madhur Mahaganapathy temple is located around 8 km from Kasargode city. Since the journey should be started early morning, it is better to have an overnight stay at a hotel in Kasargod. The road trip takes around 7 hours in normal traffic (inclusive of the time taken for darshan at each temple). The major offerings at this temple include Appa (Lord Ganesh's favourite) and Udayasthamana Puja (the pujas from dawn to dusk).

After the darshan at Madhur Mahaganapathy temple, you can head to Mangalore taking Edapally-Panvel highway. It would take less than an hour to reach Mangalore where Sharavu Mahaganapathy Temple is located. Located at the heart of the city, it is easy to locate the temple. The other two deities that are worshipped in the temple are Sri Sharabheswara and Sri Nagabrahma. The temple is around 800-years-old and a major tourist attraction of Mangalore.

From Sharavu Mahaganapathy Temple, Kumbashi is around 80 km which takes an hour and a half's drive to the Mahaganapathy Temple in Kumbashi. This temple is also called as 'Annegudde Sri Vinayaka Temple'. After the darshan here, we can proceed to Siddi Vinayak Temple in Hattiangadi.

The 8th century Siddi Vinayak temple is located in Hattiangadi, a small village in Kundapura taluk of Udupi district in Karnataka. A 20 minutes drive from Kumbashi will get you to this temple where the pujas are still done in a simple and methodical way. The temple has gone through many phases of renovation and one of the most popular temples in the region. The 2.5ft idol of Siddi Vinayaka (Lord Ganesha) is carved out of a Saligrama stone.

Our next stop is at the Idugunji Ganapathy temple. Located around 45 km away from Hattiangadi, the Idugunji Ganapathy temple is one of the popular temples in Udupi district. The temple was built more than 1500 years back and the two-handed idol holds Modaka in one hand and a lotus in the other. If the trip is planned fine, you should be here around noon. Free lunch is offered to the devotees in the temple. After having the prasadam, the journey can be continued to Gokarna.

Gokarna is located around 65 km from Idugunji. The road is straight and there are tea stalls on either sides of the road, just in case the drive gets you sleepy. The Ganapathy temple in Gokarna has an idol that is similar to the one in Idugunji temple. It is located close to the Mahabaleswar temple. It is also believed that people first visit the Ganapathy temple here before heading to the Mahabaleswar temple. Our journey of visiting 6 Ganapathy temples ends at the temple here. The route map shown gives you an idea of the route. This pilgrimage trip will be refreshing as the whole route is along the coastal line filled with spectacular sceneries.
