Yumthang is a beautiful place in the north of Sikkim. It is, thus, aptly called the Valley of Flowers. Such is the richness of its scenic beauty that during spring season the place is mired with beautiful wild colourful flowers, like the primulas and rhododendrons, thus, attracting towards it, tourists in hoards. Apart from this, there are various other alluring attractions in and around the beautiful place.
Geography
The Yumthang Valley is present in the North Sikkim district, at a height of 3,575 metres above sea level. It lies at a distance of about 148 km from Gangtok – the capital of Sikkim.
Tourist Places In And Around Yumthang
The Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary over here has 24 species of Rhododendron flowers, which bloom from April to May end. The hot spring situated towards the right side of Yumthang is yet another tourist hotspot. The place is also famous for its scenic beauty with green meadows, cool pine and silver fir forests, beautiful waterfalls and streams. Skiing is an adventure popularly in practise at Yumthang.
Also present about 6 km ahead of Yumthang, towards its north, is a Shiv Mandir. There is also another popular place called the Yumesamdong about 16 km away.
