Types of Forts in India

The construction of forts in India was influenced by the cultural and  aesthetic preferences of the ruling classes who built them.

Given the incredible diversity of our country's landscape, here are the various types of forts found in India.

Jal Durg: This fort is encompassed by bodies of water that may be either natural, such as seas or rivers, or man-made lakes.

Giri Durg: This particular fort is positioned either at the peak of a hill or within a valley encircled by hills.

HILL FORT

Van Durg: As an initial defensive measure, this fort is protected by an extensive forest canopy.

Dhanva Durg: encompassed by a desert or a barren expanse of land, impeding the rapid movement of potential adversaries.
