Have you ever seen the Sea Tinkle? A bioluminescence was seen in Chennai. The sea sparkles could be seen from Kovalam to Thiruvanmiyur in the city.
The ebb and flow of the beach water is accompanied with a mysterious blue glow, which is a highly uncommon sighting.
The blue glow phenomenon was referred to as bioluminescence by marine specialists. It is brought on by Noctiluca Scintillans, a species of phytoplankton that, when washed ashore, transforms its chemical energy into light energy.
Similar to fireflies, several marine species such as bacteria, algae, jellyfish, worms, crabs, sea stars, fish, and sharks exhibit bioluminescence.
Although it may be a visual delight for us, the sighting is not good for the health of the marine environment and is an indication of climate change, according to the experts.
