Wardha holds a prolific place in history of being the land that was ruled by several great kingdoms consisting of the Chalukyas, the Mauryas, the Rajputs and the Satavahanas.

Wardha was first under the captivation of the Bahmani kingdom back in 1351. It later came under the Imad Shahi rulers in 1518 when the Bahmani dynasty disintegrated. Post the invasion of the Mughal dynasties, the region of Wardha finally came under the British rule.

Wardha played an extremely significant role in India’s freedom chapter by serving as the site of Gandhiji’s ashram.

Founded in 1866, the district of Wardha is located in the state of Maharashtra. The city within the district, that shares the same name, got its name from the Wardha river that flows through the place. The place is sprawled over a massive area of 6310 km.

Wardha presently serves as a prominent cotton trade centre and was historically significant in the Gandhian Era.
