    Mahakaleshwar Temple is regarded as one of the most auspicious temples of the Hindus in the sacred town of Ujjain. The temple lies near a lake. The temple has a broad courtyard surrounded by huge walls. There are five levels inside the temple and one of the levels is situated underground. Dakshinamurti is the name given to the idol of Mahakaleshwar and the deity faces the south.

    The temple is regarded as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of India. There is a myth among the locals that the prasad offered to the deity can be again reoffered, and this is believed to be a special feature performed only in this temple. The idol in this temple is of Omkareshwar Shiva and the deity is consecrated in the sanctum just above the Mahakal shrine. A huge fair takes place in the temple premises on the auspicious day of Mahashivaratri.

    Harsiddhi Temple

    Harsiddhi Temple is a very special temple as it finds an important place in the temple town of Ujjain. The temple belongs to Devi Annapurna who is painted in a dark vermilion colour. The idol of Annapurna is seated between the idols of Devi Mahalakshmi and Devi Saraswati. The symbol power of shakti is known as Shri Yantra and this yantra is also enshrined in this temple.

    The place shares a very special place in the Puranas, as the myth says that when Lord Shiva was carrying the body of Sati, her elbow dropped at this place.     The Kaliadeh Palace is one of the most famous historical landmarks of the temple town of Ujjain. The palace was built by the Sultan of Mandu long back in the year 1458 A.D.     Sandalwala Building

From that day, the place was considered as sacred by the locals. The followers of the Nath sect also worship in this place.

    Vikram Kirti Mandir

    Vikram Kirti Mandir was constructed in the holy town of Ujjain in order to establish the glory of the Mauryan Age in the minds of the younger generation.     Gopal Mandir

    Gopal Mandir is one of the famous places of Ujjain and the temple is consecrated to Lord Krishna. The temple is also called Dwarikadhish Temple. The temple was built by Bayajibai Shinde in the 19th century.

    Bayajibai was the queen of Maharaja Daulat Rao Shinde. The temple is one of the finest examples of Maratha architecture. The deity is in the silver form with a height of almost 2 ft. It is on a marble-inlaid altar where the idol has been placed, and there are silver-plated doors.

    There is a myth about the silver-plated doors that they had been stolen by Mahmud Ghazi, and it was stolen from the Somnath Temple. It was taken back to Lahore by Mahmud Shah Abdali who was an Afghan invader.

    After a long struggle, the doors were recovered and were installed at the Gopal Mandir. A lot of festivals are celebrated throughout the year including Janmashtami, in the temple premises.
