India has many temples that intrigues every traveller. From a temple of rats to royal Enfield being worshipped , we have many interesting temples spread across our country. Yaganti Uma Maheswara Temple or Yaganti in Andhra Pradesh is one such unique temple. Let us know more about this pilgrimage centre.
Yaganti Uma Maheswara Temple located in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The other deities worshipped here are Goddess Parvati and Nandi, the bull. The interesting fact about this temple is that the Nandi idol is found to be increasing in size. The locals claim that the idol was much smaller initially and has grown over time.

Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has done research on the idol and has concluded that the rock used to carve the idol has an enlarging nature associated to it. Research says that the idol's size increases by an inch in 20 years.
Due to the idol's growing nature, a pillar had to be removed so that devotees can do pradakshinas (circumambulations) around the idol. According to the sage Pothuluru Veerabrahmendra, the idol would come alive depicting the end of Kali Yuga, the present era as per Hindu belief.

Another interesting aspect of the temple is that crows are not found in the premises. Legend has it that while sage Agasthya was performing penance, he was disturbed by crows. He then cursed them that they shall never be allowed to enter the temple.
Pushkarini, the temple pond here is believed to have water throughout the year. It is from here that the water flows out from the mouth of Nandi. This water that comes from the surrounding hills and it is sweet in nature which makes it really refreshing.

Agasthya Cave is another attraction of the temple, and is believed to be the place where the sage Agasthya worshipped Lord Shiva.
The other attractions near the temple include Kurnool Fort, Bala Sai Baba Temple, Jagannatha Gattu Temple and Kurnool Museum.

How to reach Yaganti
Buses are available from Banaganapalli which is located around 11km away from the temple. The nearest railway station is Nandyal Railway Station located 55km away. The station is connected to cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Hubli and Goa. Hyderabad International Airport is the nearest airport to Yaganti. The best time to visit the temple is from October to March.
