Nature's symmetry is something we take for granted! For example in flowers, insects, and in the face of a tiger. However, in geology, it is rare and its occurrence is something to marvel at. Producing tens of thousands of multisided columns packed together like a giant-sized handful of hexagonal pencils, nature has spectacularly revealed her mathematical genius.

On the giant's Causeway the basalt columns average 18m (460mm) across and vary from about 3ft to 6ft (1m to 2m) high. Extends 150m into the sea and consists of some 40,000 basalt columns. Visit to really see why this is featured in our list of the best natural wonders of the world.

A white wonderland glistens on a Turkish hillside below a ruined city where greeks and Romans once took the waters. Pamukkale's spring seems like an immense frozen cascade and a visit to this location will provide you with a sense of wonder when you witness white-walled, scalloped-edge terraces rising one above another. Pools of water reflect the fluffy-textured walls, and stalactites like frozen waterfalls hung around the periphery of the whole area, the slender pillars backed by dark, pine-clad mountains.

Like icing on a cake, Pamukkale's stunning white mineral deposits from high sheer walls in some places and shallower terraces in others. Besides, its visual appeal, for thousands of years, the mineral-rich hot springs have had a reputation for their healing properties. Pamukkale's springs are second to none and it is one of the must-visit places in the world before you die.

3. Great Barrier Reef, Australia

The largest structure on earth is the jewel of Queensland's coast, its engineers are tiny cousins of the jellyfish. Considering that it is one of the planet's loneliest ornaments - a jewel of azure, indigo, sapphire, and purest white whose glories are apparent even from the moon. The reefs are the product of 10,000 years of labour, during which the ocean rose to its present level after the last ice age.

Running some 2030 km along the edge of the continental shelf of northern-eastern Australia, it is the largest living entity on Earth. Though to a visitor's eye, the reef is a thing of beauty and serenity, it is also a place of endless struggle as each creature within it competes for food and space. Irrespective of its inside story, this marvellous natural wonder is a gem on this planet.

4. Table Mountain, Africa

Visible from more than 200 km away, this natural wonder has served as a spectacular and comforting beacon for seamen ever since the Portuguese explorer Bartholomev Dias became the first European navigator to see them in 1488. The Flat-topped summit at the toe of Africa is one of the world's most unforgettable and best-known landmarks.

In summer a mantle of white cloud, fanned by the south-eat wind, can billow across the top of the mountain and slip below its northern face to create an extraordinary 'tablecloth' of white across its entire surface. And at sunset, this natural wonder of the world is clearly visible across the waters as far as 100 km.

5. Lechuguilla Cave, USA

Location in New Mexico, USA, Lechuguilla Cave contains a treasure trove of fabulous and infinitely varied decorations. The beauty and variety of the decorations are stunning. Hollow stalactites like drinking straws up to 15ft (4.5m) long hang from cave roofs. There are formations resembling pearls, popcorn, balloons, and minute fir trees, and others that look like elegantly draped cloths.

It was first discovered in the 1980s. Over the years, the occasional curious cavers ventured in, but not until 1986 did a group of cavers make a final breakthrough. Though beautiful, the formations are delicate. So, visiting may not be possible, however, to save the natural wonder, admiring it from a distance will be much appreciated.
