Beaches usually top the list of favoured holiday destinations as they present the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate and escape from the rest of the world. The golden sand, the frothy waters and the fresh sea breeze is a perfect escapade for one and all.
There are many beaches in India where you can head to and enjoy the beauty of nature. While some of them are popular there are those that have been forgotten and hence are not visited often. These beaches too have a lot to offer travellers. Here is a look at the five underrated beaches of India.
1. Bakkhali Beach
Bakkhali Beach is one of the most scenic beaches of West Bengal and this Casuarinas-tree-lined, virgin beach is ideal for long drives and walks. Though not much is known as to why this beautiful beach is not a major tourist hub, those who come here vouch for its beauty and are left mesmerised. A unique feature about this beach is that even on a crowded day, you can easily find a barren stretch to relax.

2. Chandipur Beach
Chandipur beach tops the list of places of attractions in Chandipur district of Odisha. This mystical beach is one of the wonders of nature. The amazing phenomenon of the water receding the beach within a few minutes and again flooding the beach in another couple of minutes is worth experiencing in person. This phenomenon happens twice a day due to the high and low tides occurring during a certain interval of time. The sand dunes and the green Casuarina trees present on the beach add to the captivating scenic beauty. Travellers coming here can see the red crabs and horse-shoe crabs that have made this beach their home.

3. Covelong Beach
Covelong, a fishing village on the Tamil Nadu coastline, serves as a true delight for beach lovers. This long stretch of beach has remained unexplored and thus retains a sense of freshness. Other attractions that can be sighted on the beach are the temples that belong to the 5th to 8th century and are believed to have been built by the Pallava dynasty. These temples still exhibit the rich cultural heritage of the erstwhile south Indian kingdoms. These temples are an important attraction and add to the tourist value of the region. Covelong also has options for water sports and is the only spot in the country where options for windsurfing abound.

4. Marari Beach
Marari Beach located in the Alappuzha District of Kerala is an idyllic location for a vacation. This beach is not frequented by many tourists and hence those who come here can relax under the sun on the sand. It is a perfect place to head to for relaxing and rejuvenating yourself. You can also take a swim in the cool waters here.

5. Agonda Beach
Agonda Beach located near Palolem is a relatively secluded beach. Also known as the 'Silent Beach', it is extremely picturesque. It is one of the underrated beaches of Goa and hence does not see many travellers. The beach offers its visitors a sense of serenity and is a perfect getaway for those who wish to relax, far from the maddening crowds.
