Some of the benefits of travelling with kids are they learn patience, and responsibility; they socialize and make friends easily; and they become involved in the process of decision making.

Schools will be closing down soon for summer vacations and you might already be planning your summer holidays. One does not have to go far and wide to find great travel experiences with little ones; you can find it closer to home. Here are some of the places in India to build some amazing memories for life with your children:

Udupi

Kids love water and what better way to spend time with them than doing what they love? Udupi has many beaches: Kaup Beach, Brahmavar beach, Shankaranarayana beach, Malpe Beach, Maravanthe beach, Ottinane beach and Murudeshwar Beach. Each of these beaches offer different things that delight kids.

For example, Kaup beach has an old lighthouse that children will seem fascinated by; they might want to learn more about the fish curing techniques at Malpe Beach; they will surely enjoy the boat ride to St. Mary's Island, etc.

What is it about elephants that brings out the child in us? Dubare Elephant Camp is a must-visit in your agenda in Coorg. Children love these majestic creatures and will be mesmerised by their sheer size and might. Children between 5 to 12 will be charged 50% of the adult tariff.

The water rafting at Dubare river and Barapole river is something children will gush about to their peers back at school. Madikeri Fort is a great place for some history lessons.

Although fishing is banned in wildlife sanctuaries in India, the fishing camp at Bheemeshwari is a fine place to learn about the variety of fish. It is known for Mahseer fish around the world. This camp is also home to over 200 species of birds and a number of animals. Some of the other activities that kids might enjoy: coracle ride, river water rafting and professional angling.

Hampi

Hampi is not only famous for its UNESCO recognized heritage temples but also for the bear sanctuary at Daroji. The Indian Sloth Bear, which the sanctuary houses is found only here. It is estimated that around 120 sloth bears are living in this sanctuary. Situated at a distance of 15 km from Hampi, this visit is sure to charm the kids.

The coracle rides across River Tungabhadra are another major hit with the kids! Further, a second fun activity to do in Hampi is bouldering aka rock climbing. The practically endless trails of hills offer a wide range of levels. It is a risky exercise; therefore kids and adults alike must use the safety gear meticulously.

The Archaeological Museum of Hampi is one of the primary attractions of the place that lodges collections of sculptures and assorted antiques. Do brush up a bit about the history so that you will be able to answer the endless questions from your kids.

Steeped in history, the capital city of Telangana is also a commercial hub. The Ramoji film City is the largest integrated film city in the world. Kids will have fun knowing where their favourite movie scene was shot. Accomodation packages are available at the Film City.

A major attraction that is not to be missed at any cost is the Shilparamam Crafts village. Kids can learn about the richness of Indian arts and crafts and enjoy the rustic setup amidst gardens, waterfalls and natural rock heights.

The heart-shaped Hussain Sagar Lake is an attraction that must definitely feature in your itinerary. Also visit the Snow World right next to the lake and experience an out of the world delight of playing in the snow (artificial, albeit). Sudha Cars Museum, an automobile museum that displays crazy cars that resemble everyday objects, is another hit with kids.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is an elephant and a tiger reserve. There are about 260 species of birds in this park. An hour long boat ride in the pristine waters will leave you refreshed and wanting for more. You might even spot a Tiger if you are lucky!

Do check out the houseboats in the area to have the most relaxing experience, cruising through the clear water. If you are pining for an amazing and exciting camping experience, look no further than Thekkady. The nature camps will help your children understand how to be in harmony with nature.

Agra is synonymous with the Taj Mahal. Kids will love the Taj Mahal because of how much they have already heard and learned about it. Hand over a camera to your child and see how she/he captures the magic of the Taj on screen.

After spending time at the Taj Mahal, you can head to the Doll museum with the children.There are special displays from over 150 kinds of authentic Indian costume dolls made at the dolls workshop.

Indian dolls made at the workshop are exchanged for gifts received from abroad as well as sold to collectors and museums in India and abroad. This museum is closed on Mondays, so plan your travel accordingly.

Puppet shows are an integral part of Rajasthani culture, and can be enjoyed at Udaipur. The puppet show usually consists of 2 male puppeteers and 1 female drummer who narrates the show. After enjoying the puppet show, head out for a camel ride and delight in the giggles that pour out from the children. Next, you can book a guided horse safari.

Kick off your Delhi trip with a long, peaceful stroll at Lodhi Gardens; whilst indulging in enchanting architecture of tombs, mosques and bridges from Sayyid and Lodhi periods.

Delhi has some wonderful theme and amusement parks for kids. Appu Ghar is one of the oldest and pioneering amusement parks in India that was established to commemorate Asian Games in 1984. Other must-see theme parks are Worlds of Wonder and Adventure Island.

Bal Bhavan is an exclusive museum for children and young adults. Apart from museum exhibits, a few participatory activities are conducted for the kids where they are free to experiment, analyze, observe and even make new friends!

Auli

Auli is a famed ski destination in the Himalayan mountains of Uttarakhand. Glide your feet into heavy skiing boots, clamp them on to the skis and let gravity do the magic. The best time to go skiing at Auli is from January to April.

The mountains are covered with thick blankets of powdery snow. Children will enjoy it immensely. You can embrace your inner child and build a snowman with the kids.

Auli is connected to Joshimath by a 3.5 km long cable car that provides an excellent panoramic view of the mountain peaks like Nanda Devi, Kamet and Dronagiri. Be sure to carry all the recommended snow gear.
