West Bengal is one of the most culturally rich states in the the country. The place is well-known for many reasons; it is home to several well-known philosophers, saints, etc. such as Tagore, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Subhash Chandra Bose and places like the Durga temples, Victoria Memorial, Sundarbans and many more.
But not many of us have taken the lesser-known paths which lead to some of the most pristine regions, such as Dooars, Chandraketugarh and much more. These are just a few of the lesser-known names in the state; there are many more that throw their doors open for travellers to explore and experience.
We bring you some of the best offbeat destinations in West Bengal, in case you are looking for destinations less travelled.
1. Duarsini

Located in the Purulia district of Bengal, this place is a fine example to showcase Mother Nature at her best. The little hamlet is home to lush green forests, with woods of shal, shimul, piyal and palash; the forests in this region is also the abode of a tribe which is not known to many.
One would come across tribes, such as Munda, Shabaradh, Santhal and Kheriya, that are known for their unique cultures. The jungles here are also home a large number of wildlife species, such as bears, elephants, hyenas and many more.
2. Junput

Finding its place in the list of lesser-known beach destinations of the state, Junput is a place for solitude seekers and those who hate crowds. Situated in the Midnapore district, the place is filled with palm trees and white-sand beaches; the place also doubles up as a fishing destination which rests in the lap of Mother Nature. Junput is best known for its silence and tranquillity.
3. Samsing

A place with the combination of beautiful mountains, gorgeous tea gardens, lush green jungles and small streams is Samsing for you. Located in the Jalpaiguri district is the beautiful hilly hamlet of Samsing which offers one of the most gorgeous views of unspoilt and multihued landscapes which make it a beautiful destination for one to relax in.
4. Taki

About 80 km from the city of Kolkata is the picturesque town of Taki in the Hasnabad district of the state. The town finds its location on the banks of the Ichamati river and showcases the best of natural beauty, culture and essence of Bengal. One would love the simplicity of the villagers here and Taki provides a perfect holiday, taking you away from the modernity into the depths of nature.
Taki is the place which home to some of the oldest Ramakrishna Mission ashrams and a government school which is said to be more than 250 years old. While here, make sure you visit the Kali Temple and the Jora Shiv Mandir which are believed to be more than three centuries old.
5. Jayrambati

Jayrambati, is a place for those who are looking for a spiritual and historical holiday. Located in the Bankura district of West Bengal, the hamlet of Jayrambati is the birthplace of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's spouse Sarada Devi. One would come across a temple dedicated to Sarada Devi, where there is a beautiful marble statue of the mother installed.
The hamlet is also home to an unusual shrine named Naranarayan Temple, where children below the age of five are worshipped. Devotees can be seen offering clothes, toys, books and other stationery articles in prayers. The place is one of the best choices to make if you are looking for a place filled with an aura of spiritual energy and peace.
