Zoos in India usually house more than just animals. They sometimes are accompanied by snake parks, animal orphanages, bird sanctuaries, etc. While there are over 50 zoos in India, here are the 5 best zooological parks that you mustn't miss while on a visit to the respective places.

The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park which is commonly known as Rajiv Gandhi Zoo, is located in Pune, Maharashtra. Famous for the Katraj Snake Park that is found in the premises, the two other parts of the place consists of a zoo and an animal orphanage.

Russells viper, Indian rock python and king cobra are some of the species of snakes that can be found in the zoo. You will get to witness animals like white tigers, Bengal tigers, leopards and birds like peafowl and blackbucks.

Also known as Vandalur Zoo, the Arignar Anna Zoological Park is India's largest zoo that is spread across an area of 1,300 acres. It is located in Chennai's suburb called Vandalur in Tamil Nadu. The zoo is home to innumerable species of mammals, fishes, amphibians, insects, etc.

With dry deciduous and dry evergreen scrub vegetation, the park is home to many different animals like baboons, lion-tailed macaques, barking deers, etc. Other attractions of the zoo are the butterfly house, walk-through aviary, reptile house, crocodile enclosure, to name a few.

Mostly known for housing cute red pandas, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoologicial Park , also known as Darjeeling Zoo, is the largest high altitude zoo in India since it is perched at an elevation of 7000 ft.

Apart from red pandas, the zoo houses quite a few endangered animals, such as Siberian tigers, mountain goats, etc. The zoo is also a birdwatcher's delight since it attracts birds of many different species, such as rose ring parakeets and hill mynas to name a few. The zoo reamins open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm and will remain closed on Thursdays.

Nocturnal birds like fruit bats, mottled wood owls, great horned owls, barn owls can be witnessed in this house. Animals that can be seen in this park includes Asiatic lion, Bengal tiger, antelopes, etc.
