The best time to visit Kenjalgad Fort is from September until the end of March. You can also visit it during the monsoon season; however, you need to be very careful while trekking up the hill as the routes become very slippery and risky.

The Location And Surroundings Of Kenjalgad Fort

Kenjalgad Fort is located at Wai in the Satara district at a distance of about 220 km from Mumbai and 60 km from Mahabaleshwar. It is rhomboid in shape and is settled atop Mahadev hill range at an elevation of 4269 feet.

Hence, it has become a popular trekking destination for the local tourists. However, it is still unknown amongst common tourists. As per historical records, the fort dates back to the 12th century and was constructed by a Bhoja king. Later on, the fort was captured by several other dynasties, which include the Adil Shahi dynasty, the Marathas, the Mughals and the British.

Today, the fort is in ruins and is rarely frequented by historians. Hence, it has lost its identity in the pages of unknown history. How To Reach Kenjalgad Fort

By Air: The nearest airport from Kenjalgad Fort is located in Pune at a distance of about 100 km. Once you have reached the airport, you can hire a cab to reach the fort. It will take you an approximate time of 3 h to reach the fort from the airport.

By Rail: The best way to reach Kenjalgad Fort by rail is to take a train to Satara railway station and then from there, a cab to the fort. The distance between the fort and the railway station is 60 km.

By Road: Being a hill fort, you cannot access it by cab. You can easily reach the base of the fort and then from there, you need to go trekking to reach the fort.
