Overshadowed by other popular tourist destination like Alleppey, Kochi and Munnar, Wayanad is an untouched emerald in God's own country. And one of the major attractions in Wayanad is the Soochippara Falls.

Located 13 km, 24 km and 46 km from Meppadi, Kalpetta and Sultan Bathery respectively, Soochipara is well connected to other cities in Kerala and is a must-visit tourist attraction in Wayanad. Also known as Sentinel Rock Falls, this stunning waterfall is located amid the Vellarimala Mountain Range. It is one of the most visited tourist spots in Wayanad.

How To Reach Soochipara Falls

By air: The nearest airport is Calicut International Airport. It is located around 65 km away from Wayanad. On arrival at the airport, local cabs or buses can be availed to travel till Wayanad.

By train: The nearest railway station to Wayanad is Kozhikode. Wayanad is not connected by rail. However, Kozhikode railway station is well connected to major cities in India.

By road: A wide range of roadways provide access to Wayanad from different parts of South India and India. You can rent a cab to reach Soochippara Falls. And once you reach Soochippara, a 30 minutes trek will lead you to the Falls.

Best Time To Visit Soochipara Falls

The best time to visit Sochippara Falls is during the rainy season. You can see a considerable volume of water during the rainy season. The waterfall is mostly dry during the hot season and is usually closed to tourists from March to June. The entry fee is Rs. 50, if you carry a camera.

Soochippara Falls is a 3-tiered waterfall with a height of about 200m. The water falling from 200m forms a large pool, making it ideal for tourists and travellers to take a dip and relax. The water from the Soochipara Falls joins the Chaliyar River after flowing across Vellarimala Hills, Tamil Nadu.

Soochippara is derived from the two words - ‘soochi' meaning needle and ‘para' meaning rock. And since the ranges here are in the form of needles, this natural wonder is called Soochippara. It also offers a smooth cliff, ideal for rock climbing. It is surrounded by a deciduous evergreen forest that makes this rock an enchanting spot.

This waterfall is one of the best waterfalls in Wayanad. A 20-minute drive from Meppady will take you to this magnificent waterfall. Tourists have to trek about 2 km from the road to reach the falls. The trek is easy, it takes about 30 minutes one way. To much of thrill-seekers and photographers amusement, the trail is filled with varied flora, and view of many rare animals such as spotted deer and elephants.

The route between Meppadi and Soochipara is surrounded by beautiful tea plantations with a backdrop of Chembra Peak. A trip to Sochippara is a wonderful experience. A spectacular panoramic view of landscapes and mountains can be seen from the wood-topped huts provided by the Forest Department. And these tree-topped huts are strategically located to offer a magnificent view of the Western Ghats.
