Nagaland, one of the Seven Sister States of Northeast India, is not an exception. It is known as the land of the Nagas and has a unique natural beauty with amazing sights and beautifully aligned mountains that would surely give you a sense of serenity. 1. Kohima

If you are visiting Nagaland for the first time, then Kohima is a must-visit for you. The hilly capital of Nagaland is situated at a height of 1500 metres above sea level and is a perfect place to spend your summers, away from the hectic rush of everyday life.
Founded in the British era, Kohima has an amazing blend of hills, forests and picturesque landscape. Kohima, which was originally known as Kewhira, has an equally interesting and intriguing history that dates back to the period of World War II.
Visitors who are interested in adventurous sports will be happy to know that there are plenty of trekking, camping and hiking options in Kohima.
Places To Visit In Kohima
One can visit Dzukou Valley and Japfu Peak, Kohima Museum, Touphema Village, Shilloi Lake, Kohima Zoo and Khonoma green Village.
How To Reach Kohima
Kohima is well connected by roads as well as by train. Although it doesn't have a railway station, visitors can get down at Dimapur railway station, which is around 74 km away from Kohima, and take a cab from there. In case if you are travelling by flight, then you have to hire a taxi from Dimapur Airport to reach Kohima.
2. Mokokchung

Mokokchung is one of the largest and ancient villages of Nagaland. If you are willing to know the culture of the Ao Naga tribe, then this is the right place to be. After Dimapur, Mokokchung is one of the most significant urban centres in the state. The Moatsu Festival starts on 1st May and continues till 3rd May when the villagers of one particular area exchange gifts and build friendships with the villagers of the other region.

Visitors can also go to Longkhum, Ungma Village, Langpangkong Caves, Molung Village and Chuchuyimlang Village.
How To Reach Mokokchung
Visitors can rent cars from Dibrugarh railway station to reach Mokokchung Village. From Dimapur Airport, one can take local transport and visit Mokokchung.
3. Pfutsero

This hill station, located at a height of 2133 metres above sea level, is the highest and coldest town of Nagaland. The temperature at Pfutsero drops below zero degree Celsius during the winter season, while the average summer temperature ranges from 23 degrees to 27 degrees Celsius. Pfutsero is also quite popular for its apple farms; thus, if you are lucky enough you might have a chance to taste an apple from one of its farms.

Tourists can also visit Zunheboto, Saramati Mountain, Ghosu Bird Sanctuary and Satoi hill ranges in Pfutsero.
How To Reach Pfutsero
The bus service is not that frequent to Pfutsero; hence, it will be better to hire a cab and reach the destination. Dimapur is the nearest airport to Pfutsero and Rangapahar is the nearest railway station.
4. Phek

Established in 1973, Phek is a mountainous region, at an altitude of 2,134 metres above sea level, which is extremely rich in flora and fauna along with some beautiful rivers, including Tizu, Lanye and Sedzu. Phek is also quite popular for rare tragopan birds and a variety of orchids.

Khezhakeno, Chizami Hq, Glory Peak, Phek Waterfall and Dzudu Lake are amongst the famous tourist spots in Phek.
How To Reach Phek
Visitors can take a flight to Dimapur Airport and from there they can either take a bus or a cab to reach Phek. It will take around an hour or two to reach this hill station from the airport. Phek is also well connected by roads as well as trains.
5. Mon

Mon, which is a home to the Konyak Nagas, is located in the north-eastern part of Nagaland. Located at an altitude of 898 metres above sea level, this hill station resonates the rich culture and tribal history of the place. Although, Mon doesn't have many sightseeing spots, people often visit this place to experience the tradition, colourful dresses and heritage of its residents.

Veda Peak, Naginimora, Chui, Longwa and Shangyu are worth visiting if you are planning to explore the surroundings in Mon.
How To Reach Mon
Unlike other tourist destinations, Mon is situated quite far away as it is located close to Burma. However, people can avail direct bus services from Kohima and Dimapur to Mon. But, if you are planning to reach there by flight, then that will not be a good idea as the journey will prove to be time consuming.
6. Tuensang

Tuensang is one of the districts of Nagaland that rests on the international border of Indo-Myanmar. Like other hill stations, Tuensang is also rich in culture and traditions and one can cherish the heart-warming ambience of the village here. Visitors can also catch a glimpse of the traditional attire along with the soulful songs and the rhythmic dance of the tribe in Tuensang.

Changsangmongko, Longtrok, Chilise, Tsadang Village and Noklak are the common tourist spots in Tuensang.
How To Reach Tuensang
This hill station is easily accessible and well connected through NH 202. Visitors can catch a bus or hire a taxi from almost every railway station in the region or airport to reach Tuensang.
