Hyderabad which was under the rule of Qutub Shahi Dynasty, Mughals and Nizams has a great historical past. There are also many places around the city which are full of historical sites and tourist attractions. These destinations are the short weekend getaways from Hyderabad.

Kakatiya dynasty, Satavahana dynasty, Nizams and many other rulers have left their period behind through various monuments. These short weekend getaways are around 100 - 200km from Hyderbad city and can be easily covered on weekend trips.

Forts, temples, mosques, dams, Jain temples, etc. depict a glorious past. A travel to these places around Hyderabad will surely take you back in time.

Warangal

Warangal

The city of Warangal or Orugallu is known for its heritage sites in Telangana. Orugallu literally means a 'single stone', meaning 'a city carved out of single rock'.

Warangal was a stronghold of Kakatiya dynasty in 12th - 14th century. Later, it came under the rule of Bahmani Sultanate and Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Thousand Pillar Temple, Warangal Fort, Ramappa Temple, Khush Mahal, Bhadrakali Temple, Ethrunagaram are some of the main tourist places in Warangal.

Nalgonda

Nalgonda

Distance: 100km
Nalgonda has a great historical past and it has been ruled by different kingdoms. Now many architectural remains of those period are a major tourist spots.

Nalgonda town is also said to be one of the oldest inhabited places in Telangana.

Nagarjuna Sagar, Bhuvanagiri Fort, Nandikonda, Sri Jain Mandir (Kolanupaka) are some of the prominent places to visit in Nalgonda district.

Mahabubnagar

Mahabubnagar was under the Nizams of Hyderabad for a long time. It was also ruled by Satavahana and Chalukhya dynasties from 5th - 11th century AD.

Umamaheshwaram Temple, Alampur's Jogulamba Temple, Gadwal Fort, Pillalamarri (Big Banian Tree), Someswara Swamy Temple, Kollapur Palace are the main tourist places.

Nizamabad

Nizamabad, the 3rd largest city in the state of Telangana has a lot for tourism. The place has varieties of attractions from tourist places to mouthwatering cuisines.

Tourists can visit Nizamabad Fort, Sriram Sagar Dam, Badapahad Dargah, Alisagar Park and many other places here.

Bidar is a city in Karnataka which shares its border with Telangana and Maharashtra.

In recent years, Bidar has been a major film shooting location for the Kannada film industry.

A series of rulers and dynasties have left their architectural wonders in this city. A stroll around Bidar will explain why it is called as the 'City of Whispering Monuments'.

Bidar Fort, Chaubara (tower), Papnash Shiva Temple, tombs, Narsimha Jharni, etc. are some of the places to visit in Bidar.

Srisailam

Srisailam is a popular destination in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. It is famous for Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple (one of the Jyotirlinga temples) in Nallamala Hills.

Akkamahadevi Caves and Patala Ganga (back waters) are some of the important attractions in Srisailam.
