Mythology of Ramakkalmedu
The popular legend relating to Ramakkalmedu is from the epic Ramayana. The hill station gets its name as Rama-kal-medu, which means the region where Rama placed his leg. As per the myth, once Rama stepped on this land while searching for his kidnapped wife, Sita. Hence, the name Ramakkalmedu.
It is one of the beautiful attractions located at the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. This hill station provides picturesque views of the places like Vagamon, Cumbum, Theni, Thevaram and so on. Ramakkal, being close to one of the best wildlife destinations in Kerala, Thekkady is a scenic beauty.
Kuruvan and Kuruthi

The lush green vegetation and the panoramic vistas of the hills make it a popular picnic spot for the locals.
Another major attraction is the big statues of Kuruvan and Kuruthi which sit on the summit of this hill. Kuruvan and Kuruthi represent the tribals of this region belonging to the Sangam period. The statues were created by C.B.Jinan is also a historical monument that reminds us of a glorious past.

It is also said that Kuruvan and Kuruthi are the historical figures (tribals) who helped in finding a perfect place to build Idukki Dam. Hence, their names are given to these sculptures at Ramakkalmedu.
Ramakkal is also known as one of the windiest places in Asia. Here the wind blows at a speed of 35km per hour. The speed of the wind is constant in all seasons. Hence several windmills are placed which helps in the generation of electricity for Kerala.

How to Reach Ramakkalmedu
By Road: Ramakkalmedu is around 40 from Thekkady and about 70km from Munnar. Tea plantations, spice plantations and dense forests accompany you through the journey to Ramakkalmedu.
By Bus: Kattapan is the nearest place to Ramakkalmedu. Buses are available from Munnar to Kattapan, from there tourists can take a taxi to reach the hill station.
By Train: Kottayam Railway Station is the nearest rail route to Ramakkalmedu
By Air: Cochin (Kochi) International Airport is the nearest airport to Ramakkalmedu.
