Bhubaneswar is a city in Odisha that has a history of over 2000 years, and is one among the popular tourist destinations in India. Fondly known as the 'city of temples', the city has enjoyed several other names in the past like Kalinga Nagari, Mandira Malini Nagari, Toshali, etc.

This unique festival takes place in Rajarani Temple. This 11th century Hindu temple is locally known as 'love temple' and is known for its erotic sculptures and other images. The architecture of the temples in central India is believed to have started with Rajarani Temple, the most famous of these temples being the Khajuraho Group of Temples.

The temple celebrates Rajarani Music Festival every year in January. The temple comes alive with dance performances and music recitals which is attended by musicians, music and art lovers, along with research scholars and tourists who include foreigners. The pathways of the temple and the trees surrounding the temple is decorated with lanterns, lamps and lights making the event a visual treat.

The Rajarani Music Festival is organized by Odisha Tourism Department in association with Odisha Tourist Development Corporation and Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi. The inauguration of the festival is generally by a traditional performance. Music and dance lovers find this festival as one of the most refreshing and soothing experiences. The events start at 6am and the performances end only by 9pm.
