We all love travelling. Some of us are lucky that we get to travel often but most of us get this opportunity once in a while. Usually before travelling to some new place we take advice from people who have either been there earlier or people who have knowledge about the place. The fact about this is that different people have different opinions about a place and then we are left confused as to what to do. The best judge while travelling somewhere is you yourself and nobody can decide weather we would like a place or not.

There are various places in South India that offer you some of the best getaways in the month of January. With their varied culture, history and traditions, it is absolutely amazing to travel here and enjoy the many attractions that they offer. Also, these places are cut-off from the crowded tourist destinations and provide a tranquil spot for relaxation and rejuvenation. Havelock Island

Havelock Island

Havelock Island is named after Henry Havelock who was a British General in the region. It is the star attraction of the Andaman and Nicobar group of islands and many tourists flock here every year. There are five main villages featuring their own unique beaches namely Govinda Nagar, Radha Nagar, Bejoy Nagar, Shyam Nagar and Krishna Nagar. Travellers coming here can indulge in various activities such as scuba diving and trekking. Head to one of the secluded beaches and be lost amongst the beauty of nature.

Amaravathi

Amaravathi

Located on the banks of the Krishna river is the town of Amaravati that lies in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The town is believed to be one of the oldest inhabited places of mankind and you can see many relics and ruins that have been excavated here that proves the point. Tourists coming here can take a walk through history and learn more about the culture, traditions and heritage of this place. It was made famous by Emperor Ashoka who after his battle of Kalinga became a devout follower of Buddhism and built a stupa here in honour of Lord Buddha.

Srisailam

Srisailam

Srisailam is a small town of great religious significance located on the Nallamala Hills in Andhra Pradesh. The town was established on the banks of River Krishna and is considered a holy town by the Hindus. It is visited each year by millions of devotees from all over the country. The town has temples and theerthams that make it a popular destination among pilgrims and tourists alike.

Aihole

Aihole

Aihole mesmerises travellers with its various rock architecture which are temples that were built during the Chalukyan Dynasty. This small town is visited my many devotees who come to seek the blessings of the lord. Also it attracts tourists here who travel here to marvel the artistic and architectural skills of the craftsman who build the temples.

Pollachi

Pollachi

Pollachi located at a distance of 40 km from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu is one of the best places to visit in South India in January. Situated close to the Western Ghats, it is popular for its agricultural produce. You can see many coconut farms, rice fields and other plantations along this town. There are various popular attractions here such as Top Slip, Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Thirumoorthy Hills, Amaravathy Dam and Crocodile Park and many more. The town is also popular for its various temples namely Arulmigu Subramanyar Thirukoil Temple and Arivu Thirukoil.

Devbagh Beach

Devbagh Beach

Devbagh Beachis located in the vicinity of Karwar and travellers can take ferry to reach here. This site is renowned among tourists for its jungle lodges resort. Opposed to the other beaches in the Uttara Kannada district, Devbagh Beach is devoid of pollution and noise and preferred by families, adventure seekers and honeymooners. Tourists can undertake many water sports activities here, such as scuba-diving, parasailing, banana boat rides, boat cruises and snorkelling. Travellers can also take a boat ride or a trawler from this site in order to explore the islands and fishing villages located nearby. Visitors can choose to undertake trekking at nearby hills of Kurumgad Island.

St. Mary's Islands

St. Mary's Islands

The St. Mary's Islands also known as the Coconut Islands are a group of four islands off the coast of Malpe. It is believed that Vasco Da Gama landed here during one of his voyages from Portugal. These islands are known for its scenic beauty and tourists can hire a boat to travel here. It is a perfect getaway for a picnic or for spending some quality time with your loved one.

Chidambaram

Chidambaram

The temple town of Chidambaram is located in Tamil Nadu and is known for its surreal setting of ancient Dravidian architecture and imposing gopurams. Travellers coming here can enjoy the experience of waking up to the sound of temple bells and the aroma of the finest filter coffee! Chidambaram stands for everything a tourist would expect from a quintessential Tamil Nadu temple town. It is a perfect place to head to for rejuvenation.

Erode is a small district inTamil Nadu and is located at the heart of South Indian Peninsula. It is famous for power-loom textile products, handloom products and ready-made clothes and is therefore also known as 'Texvalley of India' or 'Loom city of India'. The city is also popular for the cultivation of turmeric. There are many attractions in the city that includes many temples, churches, dams, museums and more. Tourists coming here can explore the entire city and also learn more about the culture and traditions of this place.

Udupi

Udupi

Udupi is the land of eternal bliss, thanks to the Western Ghats on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other. The town is famous for its Krishna temple that is visited by a large number of devotees throughout the year. It is a picturesque town where tourists can head out to explore various unseen places. What makes Udupi even more famous are its mouth-watering local dishes. There are many places you can head to here, of which the numerous temples are a must visit. Tourists who visit this town are said to attain mental relaxation and spiritual calmness.
