Sindhudurg district has been named after Sindhudurg Fort in Malvan town of Maharashtra. The Arabian sea forms the West Coast and the Western Ghats to the East of this district. Sindhudurg with the coastal line (Konkan region), the Sahyadri ranges and its proximity to the South of Goa (170km) provides opportunity for an offbeat travel in Maharashtra.
The district also has a great history, the forts and temples built during those times are major tourist attractions here. In recent times, water sports like scuba diving and snorkelling has been thriving in Sindhudurg. The world famous Alphonso mangoes are also grown and exported from this place.
The places in the region are not that famous but has a lot to offer for tourism and hence they become an offbeat travel options in Maharashtra.
Redi Ganapati Temple
Redi is around 22km from Vengurla in Maharashtra. The Ganesha temple in Redi has an interesting story.
In 1976, a person named Sadanand Kambli had a dream of Ganapati hidden under the manganese mines in Redi.
He gathered some people of the village and started digging in the place which appeared in his dream. To their surprise, a fully carved Ganapati statue was found.
Redi Ganapati temple was built in the same place and after a few days even the mouse (Ganapati's vehicle) statue was also found.
Today, this temple is of great importance in this area.

Tarkarli Beach
Tarkarli is a coastal village at Malvan in Sindhudurg, it is famous for Tarkarli beach (a stretch of coastal line).
Tarkarli village is located at the meeting point of Karli River and the Arabian sea.
Karli backwaters on one side and Tarkarli beach on the other side makes it one of the romantic destinations in Maharashtra.
Tarkarli also has a scuba diving training centre, altogether Tarkarli is a must visit place in Sindhudurg.

Kunkeshwar Temple
Kunkeshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is situated in Kunkeshwar village around 17km from Devgad town.
This ancient temple was built in 1100 AD and was renovated by Chatrapati Shivaji. Kunkeshwar temple is also called as 'Kashi of South Konkan'.
Kunkeshwar is also famous for growing Alphonso mangoes; tourists will love the beach, the temple and the mango groves here.

Vengurla
Vengurla is a port town which was a commercial centre of Dutch and British. The buildings and the planned town left by these colonisers are still visible.
Vengurla has many beaches and tourist places, they are Mochemad Beach, Terekhol Beach, Vengurla Beach, Redi, Sri Rameshwar Temple, Shri Vetoba in Aravali, etc.

Sindhudurg Fort
Sindhudurg Fort is a sea fort and a protected monument situated in the coast of Malvan. This fort was built during 1664-67 by Shivaji.
Even today a few Malva families (descendants of soldiers) stay in the fort. Scuba diving and snorkelling are someof the main attractions for the tourists.

Sri Dev Rameshwar Temple
Sri Dev Rameshwar Temple is located in Devgad and is one of the famous Shiva temples in Sindhudurg. It is an ancient temple which was built in 16th century.
During 18th century, many architectural additions were made to this temple. Dev Rameshwar Temple also has wall paintings which depict the stories of Mahabharata and Ramayana.
It is one of the prominent places to visit in Sindhudurg district.
