The political citadel of the Gandhi and the Nehru family, the old city of Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh is nestled on the banks of the river named Sai. The town originated in the year 1858, carved by the British.
History has it that the Raebareli town was once ruled by the magnificent Bhar dynasty. They have ruled the town for decades, which led to the origin of the name 'Bharauli' or 'Barauli', which lately, has morphosed into Bareli.
The prefix 'Rai' has been coined from the names of the Kayastha and Munihar races who constituted a significant fraction of the town. Besides its historical and political significance, this little town is also home to several tourist attractions, the best of which are listed below.
How To Reach Raebareli
By Air: The nearest airport to Raebareli is the Lucknow Airport. Its location is about 80 km away from the town. From the airport, frequent cab services are available to take you to the town.
By Rail: There is a major railway station in the city of Raebareli that is frequented by trains from all the major cities of the country.
By Road: Buses to the city of Raebareli are available from major cities in the country. The bus junction of Raebareli remains quite busy with frequent bus services that connect the town to other parts of the country.

1. Samaspur Bird Sanctuary

Established in the year of 1987 and sprawling across an area of 780 hectares of land, the Samaspur Bird Sanctuary is a haven for over 250 different bird species.
It is home to a lot of avifauna-including both resident and migratory ones, such as grey leg goose, pin tail, common teel, vision, showler, surkhab and many more. These birds are known to traverse a distance of at least 5000 km and more to come to this place.
The presence of thousands of birds, from a variety of breeds, flocking around in an array of bright hues and shades, makes one magnificent sight to behold as well as a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the busy town-life.
The Samaspur Bird Sanctuary is a treat for the eyes, as the colourful and chirpy birds flock around, amidst the impressive varieties of flora and fauna dotting the land.
2. Indira Gandhi Memorial Botanical Garden

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Botanical Garden, located on the Lucknow-Varanasi highway, was established in the year 1986, with an objective to restore the ecological balance. Fanning out across an area of 57 hectares, the garden is nestled on the northern banks of the Sai river.
This garden memorial is not just about beautifully carved pavements and vibrant gardens, but it also serves as an educational institute for research scholars, scientists and those who wish to learn more about plant life.
The garden houses several medicinal plants as well as the decorative ones. With so much going on, the rock garden, rose garden, greenhouse, seasonal garden and an aquatic garden are just the icing on the cake.
3. Dalmau

Dalmau, snuggled on the banks of the holy river Ganga, has been popular since the ancient times. It has been the place of utmost historical importance in the district of Raebareli.
From magnificient architectural edifices adorning the place to historical palatial forts, Dalmau is home to some of the most beautiful archaic monuments.
The well constructed King Dal's fort, Bara Math, Mahesh Giri Math, Nirala Memorial Institute, Ebrahim Sharki, Palace of Nawab Shuza-ud-daula, Baithak of Alhaa Udal, Dalmau Pump Canal, Dalmau is home to some exceptional monuments of immense historical significance. The place is a must visit for the history buffs.
4. Behta Bridge

The Behta bridge, nestled on the outskirts of the town, makes an important tourist attraction. It is popular for its aqueduct construction, which makes it so unique and a popular getaway among tourists and locals alike.
Lying on the exterior rim of the town, the bridge is a great picnic spot set against a striking natural background. What makes the bridge so special, is that it is lying at the confluence, where the Sharda canal crosses the Sai river.
The water is sparkling fresh stretching over a vast area and there is fresh clean water as long as the eye can witness. Soak in the mellow and serene beauty of the place and behold the rich diversity of flora and fauna.
