How to Reach Nellore

By Air: The airport at Tirupati is located around 130 km south-west of Nellore. The airport has a limited range of services and is connected to Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam and other cities in Andhra Pradesh. The closest international airport to Nellore is the Chennai International Airport (177 km). It is well connected to all the major cities of India.

By Train: Nellore has its own railway station which is quite busy at all times of the day. It takes only three hours to get to Nellore from Chennai by train. The station has many trains that come and go to various other cities in India.

By Road: The city of Nellore is connected by a four-lane highway to Chennai. You can get to Nellore from Chennai by car or bus. The city has buses coming in from various important cities in Telangana and has regular services to the cities of Hyderabad and Chennai.

Barah Shaheed Dargah

The Barah Shaheed Dargah is a famous tourist sightseeing place to visit in Nellore. The mausoleum is believed to fulfill all the wishes of the devotees who come here to pay their respect. The festival of Moharram is celebrated with great pomp here.

Mypadu Beach

Another place to visit in Nellore is the Mypadu Beach, which is located 22 km away. The road that leads to Mypadu is well maintained. It is easily approachable from Nellore. The beach front is lengthy, and the environment around is calm. It is accessible to the public only until 6:00 pm. Visitors come to the beach to view the sunrise as it is something that should not be missed here

Pulicat Lake

A major tourist place in Nellore is the Pulicat Lake, which is known for the several rare species of migratory birds that come here. This is a hotspot for bird lovers, who can view several rare species of migratory birds here. The calm and serene atmosphere of the region also make this place a desired picnic spot.

Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary

Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is located some 20 km along the East Coast of Nellore. It is famous for the breeding of many rare species of birds here. Some of the endangered species of birds that call this place their home are the Little Cormorant, Painted Stork, White-Ibis, and Spotted Billed Pelican.

Narasimhaswamy Temple

The Narasimhaswamy Temple is a must visit place in Nellore. The temple is named after Narasimha, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is also known as Sri Vedagiri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple. The temple is a famous spot of pilgrimage. There is a holy tree inside this temple called 'Santhana Vriksha', which is believed to bless childless couples with children. Also the Kondi Kasuli Hundi, the place where people offer prayers, is believed to rid the victims of venomous bites of snakes and scorpions.

Ramalingeswara Temple

Another sightseeing place in Nellore is the Ramalingeswara Temple, also known as Ramathirdham. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Kamakshamma. Lord Vigneswara and Lord Subramanya are also worshipped here. This architecture of this old temple is certainly worth admiration. Although with time it has lost its colour, the charm of the temple remains.

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, located at Nellore, is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu as Lord Ranganatha. This temple is also known as the Talpagiri Ranganathswami Temple and also the Ranganayakulu Temple. Located on the banks of river Penna, the temple is famous for its Gaaligopuram which means 'wind tower'. It is 70 ft in height and has 10 gold plated vessels called 'Kalasams' placed on top of it. The sight of this is indeed a marvellous one and attracts tourists from far and wide here.

Adhala Mandapam

Another tourist attraction in the Sri Ranganathswamy Temple, Nellore is the Adhala Mandapam. The Addala Mandapam or 'minor hall' is famous for the various mirrors that are installed inside it. These mirrors still cast an impeccable reflection even after so many centuries of it being installed here. It is also the seat of Lord Sri Ranganathswamy who is the presiding deity of the temple.

Somasila

Somasila is a major tourist sightseeing place in Nellore. It is famous for the reservoir that stands here. This calm and secluded location attracts tourists who want to get away from the city noises and enjoy the beauty of nature. There is a mountain nearby where tourists can go trekking here as well. It is also a good spot to have a picnic.
