The city of Jamnagar was once a princely state called Nawananag and was established around the Ranman Lake that provided drinking water. It was later re-established by Maharaja Kumar Shri Ranjit Singh and was renamed Jamnagar. It was ruled by the Jadeja Rajputs who claimed to be the descendants of the Yadava clan.
Today however, this blooming city is known for its many sanctuaries and lakes. It is a major tourist spot for bird lovers who travel here to see many varieties of migratory birds that come here during the winters. There are also other attractions that draw tourists. Here is a look at a few places you should visit in Jamnagar.
Bala Hanuman Temple
One of the places to visit in Jamnagar is the Bala Hanuman Temple, which has earned itself a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the temple where the chanting of the 'Sri Rama, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram' takes place 24/7. This chant which started in August 1, 1964 is still being continued. Tourists visiting this temple can hear the devotees continuously chanting these words. The temple also sports artful architecture that can be explored by the visitors.

Jain Temple
A tourist place in Jamnagar are the three Jain Temples built around 1574 and 1622. Of the three temples, the Raisi Shah Temple is most famous and is dedicated to the Tirthankar Shantinath. Devotees throng this temple to seek his blessings. Tourists coming here can explore the temple and marvel at the intricate carvings that are present both inside and outside the temples.

Lakhota Talav
Another place to visit in Jamnagar is the Lakhota Talav, known for having nearly 75 species of migratory birds. The best time to visit the lake is during the evening when it is fully lit up and buzzing with crowds. You can go for a boat ride on the lake or simply sit back and enjoy the scenic view. It is also the place to savour some of the lip-smacking local cuisines which are cooked in stalls and sold here.

Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary
Another tourist place in Jamnagar is the Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary, famous for its many winged visitors. It has two man-made dams; one for fresh water and the other for the sea water. It is a hub for bird lovers as they get to see many species of birds here like Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Coot, Pheasant Tailed Jacana, Purple Moorhen, etc. It is a perfect place to head to with your family for a lovely outing.

Ratan Bai Masjid
Another place to visit in Jamnagar is the Ratan Bai Masjid, an old mosque said to have been built by a Muslim ruler who once ruled over the place. The unique feature about this mosque is that its doors are made of sandalwood and the two minarets have pearls etched into them. Also there is a water tank built on top of the mosque that harvests rain water. This water is used by the devotees for cleansing themselves before the prayers.

Lakhota Palace and Museum
Another tourist place in Jamnagar is the Lakhota Palace and Museum located near Lakhota Talav. This palace was once the residence of the Lakhota kings and now has been turned into a museum that showcases many items and artefacts of the Lakhota Dynasty. It also houses the weapons used by the rulers like swords, powder flasks, guns and more. Tourists coming here can browse through the many relics and also admire the magnificent palace, which has many stone carved sculptures and intricate artworks. It is open for public from 10:30 am in the morning till 5:30 pm in the evening and a nominal entry fee is charged.

Bohra Hajira
The Bohra Hajira is a beautiful mosque in Jamnagar, and is considered sacred by the Bohra Muslims who live here. It is located close to the Lakhota Talav, and is visited by devotees throughout the day. Tourists coming here are left amazed by this beautiful mosque. During the festival of Eid the mosque is decorated and lit. A feast is held here for all those who come.

Gaga Wildlife Sanctuary
Another place to visit in Jamnagar is the Gaga Wildlife Sanctuary, located near the Gulf of Kutch. This green forest houses many varieties of birds like pelicans, spoonbills and cranes to name a few. Also there are many wild animals roaming these forests. Tourists coming here are likely to spot jackals, wolves, jungle cats and blue bull. It is a haven for bird lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

How to Reach Jamnagar
By Air: Jamnagar has an airport which is well-connected with Mumbai and other major cities in our country.
By Train: There are regular trains to places like Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Calcutta and Gorakhpur from the Jamnagar Railway Station.
By Road: Jamnagar is well-connected to almost all cities of Gujarat by road. Various state transport as well as private AC buses ply to and from cities like Rajkot, Dwarka, Porbandar, Ahmedabad, Bhuj, Surat and other places on a regular basis.
