8 Best Places to Visit in Diu

Diu is a coastal town in the Union territory of Daman and Diu. Once a Portuguese colony, the town is known for various tourist places. Here are some best places to visit in the town of Diu.

Now under Narendra Modi's government, the town is being developed as a smart city. So, let us travel around some of the heritage sites and the beautiful beaches which are the prominent under Diu tourism.

Naida Caves

Naida Caves

The Naida Caves are a network of tunnels just near the Diu Fort. It is believed that Portuguese looted the building materials from the caves, which lead to some hollow spaces inside. Naida Caves is one of the best places to explore!

Diu Fort

Diu Fort

Diu Fort was built during the Portuguese rule in 1535. It is a marine fort which is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on 3 sides. Diu Fort, also known as the Portuguese Fort, played an important role during their administrative years. The lighthouse and a jail are the other attractions inside the fort.

Nagoa Beach in the village of Nagoa is one of the popular beaches in Diu. A speciality of Nagoa beach is that it surrounded by Hoka trees. Hoka trees are not found anywhere else in India because they were brought from Africa and planted here during the Portuguese rule.

St.Paul Church is another Portuguese architecture. It is dedicated to 'Our Lady of Immaculation'. St. Paul Church is one of the famous churches in Diu and also a heritage site.

Gomtimata Beach is named after the Gomtimata temple nearby. This beach is located in Vanakbara village and a perfect getaway from the city.

Zampa Gateway is one of the popular landmarks in Diu. It was built during the colonial rule and it is one of the beautiful architectures of that era.

Diu Museum

St. Thomas Church in the area of the fort is converted into a museum. It is known as the Diu Museum. It has a collection of artefacts, sculptures and various other exhibits of the olden era.

INS Khukri Memorial

INS Khukri Memorial

INS Khukri Memorial is dedicated to an Indian Navy warship INS Khukriwhich sunk during the Indo-Pakisthan war in 1971.It is the one and only Indian Navy ship which has sunk in war post-independence.
