Located on the banks of river Ghaghra is the town of Faizabad which was founded by the Nawab of Bengal, Ali Vardi Khan. Fort Calcutta
One of the places to visit in Faizabad is Fort Calcutta, built by Shuja-ud-Daula after he was defeated by the British in 1764. The fort was built to up the defence of the region should the British attack again. Tourists coming here can marvel at the fort that is made of brick and clay and has Mughal architecture. Although it has lost most of its splendour, it still reflects the heritage of a bygone era.

Gulab Bari
One of the tourist places in Faizabad is the Gulab Bari, a rose garden that covers the area of the tombs of Shuja-ud-Daula and his family members. The garden is known for its beautiful rose beds. Even today, the garden is well-taken care of and tourists visiting this place can walk around and see different varieties of roses here. It is a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of nature as well as learn a bit of history about this region.

Bahu Begum ka Maqbara
Another place to visit in Faizabad is the Bahu Begum ka Maqbara, which was built by Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula in memory of his wife. The building was created with keeping the Taj Mahal in mind. Although it is not as grand as the Taj, it has a beauty of its own. Tourists coming here can explore the structure and also marvel at the beauty of its architecture.

Guptar Ghat
Another tourist place in Faizabad is the Guptar Ghat, which consists of long stone steps that leads you into the Sarayu river. It is considered a highly religious place by the Hindus as they believe that it was here where Lord Rama took 'jal samadhi' and left for 'Baikuntha', the divine abode of Lord Vishnu. Devotees coming here take a dip in the waters here before visiting a temple that is dedicated to Lord Rama. Tourists coming here can take a stroll along the ghat and enjoy the scenic views of the place.

Moti Mahal
The Moti Mahal at Faizabad was the residence of Bahu Begum, who was the wife of Nawab Shuja-ud-Dauls. The palace was built by the Nawab for his queen and her handmaidens. It is said that every time a battle took place the queen and the women of the region took refuge in the underground cellars of this palace. Tourists coming here can explore this majestic building and also learn about the history of this place.

Rishabhdev Rajghat Udyan
The Rishabhdev Rajghat Udyan is a park built by the government of Uttar Pradesh to cater to the varied culture of this region. The lush green park has many small shrines and mosques and is visited by devotees all throughout the year. The unique feature about this park is the 22 ft statue of Rishabdev, who was the first Jain Tirthankar. Tourists coming here can take a stroll in the park and enjoy the beauty of nature here along with visiting the many shrines.

How to Reach Faizabad
By Air: The nearest airport is the Lucknow airport, located about 145 km from Faizabad. It is well-connected to all major cities in the country.
By Train: Faizabad has a major railway station served by major cities such as Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi and Allahabad.
By Road: Faizabad is connected to all major cities by buses run by state transport corporation and also luxury buses that are slightly more expensive and more comfortable than the public transport.
