Of the many places you can travel to in Chattisgarh, Durg is one of the lesser known tourist attractions. Situated on the eastern banks of the Seonath river the city is, usually, overlooked by travellers as its lacks fancy attractions.

However, there are those who venture into the city and are pleasantly surprised by what they get to see. There are a couple of temples, all with their legends shrouded in mystery. Here is a small guide to the places you can visit in the city of Durg.

Deobaloda

One of the places to visit in Durg is the small town of Deobaloda, popular for its old Shiva Temple. The temple is said to date back to the 5th century, and there is a pond beside this temple that carries a myth of an underground link with another village. The temple has deities of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh and more. Devotees coming to this temple offer worship to the lord and seeks his blessings. Tourists coming here can marvel at the beauty of the temple architecture.

Ganga Maiya Temple

A tourist place to visit in Durg is the Ganga Maiya Temple, which has a legend of its own. It is believed that the idol in this temple was found by a fisherman while he was fishing. The idol is believed to have been one from the ruins of the kingdom of Dwarka and hence is said to be very powerful. Devotees come here to pay respects to the deity. Tourists coming here can explore the old temple and be mesmerised by its legendary lores.

Patan

The town of Patan is located at an elevation of 280 mt above the sea level and provides a visual treat for the tourists as it gives a panoramic view of the entire region from here. The town is filled with many tribals who stay within the forests. Tourists coming here can interact with these tribals and learn more about their culture, traditions and heritage.

Tandula Dam

The Tandula Dam is built over the river Sukha Nala and is a popular attraction among visitors who come to Durg. Located near the Tandula village, the dam is a haven for nature lovers and bird watchers. Tourists who come here can also head for a picnic with their family.

How to Reach Durg

By Air: The closest airport to Durg is the Raipur Airport, at a distance of 54 km. This airport connects to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Kolkata, Bhubneshwar, Chennai, Ranchi and Vishakapatnam.

By Train: The Durg Railway Station is situated on the Mumbai-Howrah main-line, and it is 1,101 km away from Mumbai and 867 km away from Howrah. It is connected to all the major cities.

By Road: Tourists coming to Durg can avail buses from any part of Chattisgarh to reach here. You can also a hire a car or jeep for travel.
