He decided to shift the capital from Amber or Amer due to its increasing population. The City Palace in Jaipur was built between 1729 and 1732. It served as a royal residence throughout the rule of Kachwaha Rajputs. In fact, most part of Chandra Mahal at the City Palace is still a home of the royal family.

Entrance Gates
The City Palace in Jaipur has 3 main entrances: Virendra Pol, Udai Pol and Tripolia Pol. The tourists are allowed only at the entrances of Virendra Pol and Udai Pol, whereas the Tripolia Pol (gate) is used by the Royal Family only.

Diwan-i-Khas
Diwan-i-Khas is one of the most beautiful attractions at the City Palace in Jaipur. It was used for official meetings and to meet guests. Diwan-i-Khas is also called Sarvato Bhadra, which means auspicious from all sides.

Mubarak Mahal
The Mubarak Mahal is a 19th century old architectural building, which was built during the rule of Maharaja Madho Singh II. It was used as a reception area during the royal times. Today, Mubarak Mahal is a museum with textile exhibits belonging to the royal family.

Pritam Nivas Chowk
Pritam Nivas Chowk is a unique courtyard with four entrance doors leading to the Chandra Mahal. The speciality is that these four doors represent the four different seasons. The Peacock Gate represents autumn, the Rose Gate portrays winter, the Lotus Gate depicts summer and the Green Gate represents the spring season.

Chandra Mahal
Chandra Mahal is the main palace with 7 storeys and the most part of the building is still a royal residence. The ground floor has been converted into a museum that is open for the general public. Chandra Mahal is one of the main attractions in the City Palace in Jaipur.

Sri Govind Devji Temple is a Krishna Temple that is located inside the City Palace in Jaipur. It is said the the idol of Krishna was brought from Vrindavan during the reign of the King Sawai Jai Singh II.
