Pavagadh is a hill station which is located in Panchmahal district of Gujarat. A journey of about 55km from Vadodara will take you to this serene abode.

History of Pavagadh

Historically, Pavagadh has been a centre of attraction due to its strategic location. It goes back to the time of a Rajput King Vanraj Chavda who created the city of Champaner at the foot of Pavagadh Hill.

The whole region, including the hill was ruled by Patai Raval Family for a long time. Later, Mahmud Begada, the Muslim Ruler of Gujarat took over the town. Champaner was developed during the rule of Mahmud Begada. Today, it has many historical structures built during that time.

Tourist Attractions in Pavagadh

The hill station of Pavagadh and Champaner has many tourist places. The region is known for several religious places which gets many devotees through-out the year. Kalikamata Temple, Jain Temples, Ruins of Raval Palace, Sat Kaman and Virasat Van are some of the top tourist places in Pavagadh.

Most architectural monuments in the city of Champaner are together called as Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park. In fact, it has been declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

Kalikamata Temple is located at Pavagadh Hill. It is one of the top religious places in Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park. Kalikamata Temple which is dedicated to Goddess Kali is considered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India.

Jain Temple: There are three different group of Jain temples at Champaner, namely: Navalakka Temples, Suparshwarantha and Chandraprabhu temples and another set of temples in Mataji's Cliff. These Jain temples have a special importance in the surrounding regions.

How to Reach Pavagadh

First you can reach Champaner from Vadodara and then explore Pavagadh. Tourists can either go by car or bus. Kelanpur Railway Station is the nearest railway station to reach Champaner and Pavagadh.

So, a visit to Pavagadh will take you back in time. Its historical places and religious places located in the picturesque vistas of Pavagadh hill provides an ideal escapade.
