From a heart-shaped lake to diving into a natural pool, these offbeat places might just be the prefect answer if you are looking to do some serious backpacking.

Yedakumeri – Donigal

Yedakumeri – Donigal

This trek is not a mountain trek but is along an abandoned metre gauge railway line between Donigal and Yedakumeri. The trial is about 17 km long and it takes about 8 h to cover the entire stretch.

The railway track is located between Mangalore and Bengaluru and takes you through scenic greenery at every step amidst the Western Ghats.

Jindhagada

Jindhagada

The Jindhagada Peak is located in the beautiful Araku Valley in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The peak is the tallest peak in Andhra Pradesh and is part of the Eastern Ghats.

The trek takes you through the coffee plantations and then along the green blanket which overlaps the valley.

Perumal Peak

Perumal Peak

The Perumal Peak is located in Kodaikanal which is an ideal trek for beginners. The trek is relatively small and would take about 4 to 5 h to complete. Once at the summit, be prepared to open your eyes to breathtaking views of the Nilgiri mountain ranges and also to the town of Kodaikanal.

Paithalmala

Paithalmala

Situated in the Kannur district of Kerala, the peak is part of the Western Ghats and scales to a height of 1372 m above sea level.

The place is truly paradise for those who would love to immerse themselves in the beauty of Mother Nature and enjoy the rich biodiversity.

One can find an observatory here, constructed by the Kerala State Forest Department, at the hilltop which offers a breathtaking view of the entire area.

Meesapulimala

Meesapulimala

Located in the Idukki district at a height of 2640 m above sea level, is the World Heritage Site Meesapulimala which is a place of rich biodiversity.

The trek covers a total distance of around 15 km one side and would take you around 8 to 9 h to complete. To undertake the trek one must take permission from the forest department officials.

Kolli Hills

Kolli Hills

The hills are found in the Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu and measures about 100 to 1300 m in height; they are covered with evergreen forests.

The highlight of this place is that it has zero percent of pollution and is not very crowded, which adds on further to its tranquility.

The place has a very limited number of options for one to stay in and eat at; hence, it is advised to plan your trip well in advance.

Nagalapuram

Nagalapuram

The Nagalapuram Hills are located in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The trek to the hills is a two day trek and it is highly recommended to take a guide along with you.

The hills exhibits a dense forest cover which adds on to the adventure, along with a waterfalls, which is often seen as a natural water slide, and a 40 ft deep natural water pool.

Chimmini

Chimmini

Chimmini is a wildlife sanctuary located in the Thrissur district of Kerala. The sanctuary was formed in the year 1984 and is haven for birdwatching as the place is home to about 160 odd species of birds.

One could also find several insects here which includes the Atlas, which is considered as the largest moth in the world. Apart from trekking one could also enjoy bamboo rafting here.
