The shrine at Pushkar may be the most famous one dedicated to Lord Brahma which many think is the only shrine dedicated to the Hindu deity of creation; however, there are others which need to be added to the list. The temple at Pushkar is considered as the oldest temple dedicated to Brahma. According to legends, when compared to the other gods, Brahma was easily approachable and would bless his devotees with all his heart, which, however, have had their backlashes .

Brahma is believed to have showered his blessings on demons starting from Hiranyakashipu, Mahishasura and many more, who gave a lot of trouble to the common men as well to several gods. Due to this, Vishnu and Shiva would be required to take control of situations and assassinate these demons in their various incarnation. Since Brahma did not mend his ways, people began to stop worshipping him and instead offered prayers to Lord Vishnu and Shiva.

There are many more such legends, which justify why there are very few temples dedicated to Brahma. Have a look at some of the shrines dedicated to the Hindu god of creation in the country.

In order to put an end to Brahma's proudness, Vishnu is said to have a created a ghost to scare Brahma, terrified he comes to Vishnu for help and apologised for his shameless behaviour.

Lord Vishnu asked him to observe a penance on earth to regain himself and it is believed that Brahma chose Kumbakonam as the site for his meditation. Pleased by Brahma's penance, Vishnu accepts his apology and Brahma regains his knowledge and his status amongst the gods.

According to legends, Parvathi once mistook Brahma to be Shiva, which angered him and made him cut off one of Brahma's heads and cursed him that he would be forgotten by his worshippers and all his powers will be gone. This brought down the pride of Brahma, who pleaded for forgiveness which Shiva was not ready to accept.

As a cure to his folly, Brahma set off on a pilgrimage. While on his journey, he stopped in Tirupattur and installed 12 Shivalingams and worshipped Shiva from here. Moved by his devotion, Shiva appears before him and relieves him of his curse and grants him a shrine at the temple after restoring all his powers.
