The Neora Valley National Park gets its name from the Neora river which flows inside the park. This pristine abode gives a feel of the 'forbidden forest in Harry Potter' series! Yes, the huge trees, almost dark interiors and a mysterious feeling keeps you more engaged here. Neora Valley National Park is an abode of various species of animals and birds.

Neora Valley is wonderland for the animal lovers. Exotic species like red panda, golden cat, clouded leopards, Himalayan flying squirrel live in this jungle. Other animals like black bear, leopard cat, barking deer, civet, wild boar, goral, etc. are also found here.

Neora Valley National Park also has a rich avifauna. Brown Wood Owl, hoary throated-barwing, fire-tailed sunbird, black-faced warbler, bay woodpecker, Darjeeling Woodpecker, brown parotbill, etc. are some of the birds found here.

Best Time to Visit Neora Valley National Park

The time from October to May is the best time to visit Neora Valley National Park. The months from October to January is the winter season and be prepared for the cold weather.

Note: Visitors have to take permit to go inside the national park. You can get permits in Forest Range Office at Lava.

Nature at its Best

Neora Valley National Park is one of the protected reserves in Kalimpong Subdivision of Darjeeling. The dense jungle is dotted by Rhodendron trees, sal trees, bamboo forests and varieties of flora. The hilly slopes of this forests are untouched and hence ideal for adventure lovers. Many like to trek in the virgin terrains of Neora Valley National Park.

How to Reach Neora Valley National Park

Tourists can either enter via Lava or Samsing. Neora Valley National Park is around 50km from Kalimpong. It is around 105km from Jalpaiguri. The national park is accessible by road from the surrounding regions of Darjeeling.
