The state of Maharashtra is a blessed with innumerous travel destinations that get tourists around the year. Lined by the Arabian Sea on one side and the Western Ghats (Sahyadri Ranges) on the other, it offers a lot for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

The state is also a home to many national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that are some of the best in the country. One among them is the Nagzira Tiger Reserve. . This is one of the famous wildlife destinations in Maharashtra, which is known for its diverse landscapes, rich flora and fauna.

Nagzira Tiger Reserve is situated at the border of Bhandara and Gonda districts of Maharashtra. Earlier, a hunting ground of the local Kings, it was later given the status of a tiger reserve. Today, Nagzira is one of the top wildlife destinations in Maharashtra.

History

History

Nagzira Forest region was a hunting ground of the Gond Kings. Later, it was converted into a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1970. It was merged with a few other forested regions to establish Nagzira Tiger Reserve in 2012.

How To Reach Nagzira Tiger Reserve

Nagzira Tiger Reserve is around 117 km from the city of Nagpur. Sakoli, about 18 km from Nagzira, is the nearest town to the reserve.

By Road: Nagzira is connected to NH 6 and can be reached via Sakoli or Gondia.

By Train: Gondia Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Nagzira Tiger Reserve.
