It came under the attacks of various forces like Portuguese, Marathas, British, etc. The fort remained an undefeated treasure of Siddis along the Western coast of Maharashtra.

Murud is one of the popular weekend getaways from Mumbai and this fort is the most visited tourist spot here.

Murud Janjira can only be reached through sail boats from Rajpuri Jetty. The 21 bastions are visible from a long distance and the entrance can only be seen near the fort.
