Built during the reign of Ahom King Gadadhar Singha in the 17th century, Umananda Temple is located in the midst of Brahmaputra river at Peacock Island in the beautiful city of Guwahati. Being an ancient Shiva temple, it is one of the major attractions for tourists as well as devotees throughout the year.

The spectacular views of the temple at the time of sunset is something you should look forward to. Umananda Temple is located on Bhasmacala, a small mountain of the Peacock Island.

As per legends, it is believed that Lord Shiva dwelled at this place for a short period of time in the form of Bhayananda and imparted knowledge to his consort, Goddess Parvati. Sivasagar Sivadol is one of the most popular Shiva temples in northeast India. It was built in 1734 by Bar Raja Ambika, who was the queen of Ahom dynasty. It is situated at Sivsagar on the banks of Borpukhuri Tank and is a complex of three temples, with the major sanctum dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Built in Ahom architecture, the Shivadol temple is visited by thousands of Hindu devotees every year and is surrounded by two other temples, Devidol and Visnudol, which are dedicated to Goddess Durga and Lord Vishnu respectively.
