India has plenty of open space and protected areas for animals and birds. From zoos, national parks and sanctuaries, we have places like aquariums and snake parks to protect and preserve several species from extinction.

There are several aquariums in India that take care of aquatic life too. Though hard to maintain, these organisations do a splendid job by feeding them in the most appropriate habitat. Apart from these aquariums being tourist attractions, several of them also sell fish, for which they find plenty of buyers. Let us check out the most famous aquariums in India!

Taraporewala Aquarium in Mumbai

Taraporewala Aquarium is India's oldest aquarium and also among the top attractions of Mumbai. Located quite close to Marine Drive, it hosts marine and freshwater fishes. There are special pools in the aquarium where visitors are allowed to touch fishes that are harmless. Recently renovated, the aquarium has over 400 species of fishes. The aquarium is open from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm on all days except Mondays.

Sea World Aquarium in Rameswaram

Located oppositeto Rameswaram bus stand, Sea World Aquarium is an attraction in the city not to be missed. This oceanic aquarium is one of its kind and is a wonderful place to witness marine life. There is a fun area specially designed for kids, and thus a perfect place for a short family trip as well.

Marina Park & Aquarium in Port Blair

Located in the mesmerising Andaman & Nicobar islands which is a paradise for underwater sports, the aquarium at Port Blair is a major attraction here for the tourists. More like a museum, you can find many fishes preserved and kept in solutions. Maintained by the Indian Navy, this aquarium is a must-visit if you would love to know more about aquatic life.

Government Aquarium in Bengaluru

The Government Aquarium, also known as the Bangalore Aquarium, is the second largest aquarium in India. Located at the entrance of the Cubbon Park in the city, the aquarium houses a large variety of cultivable and ornamental fish. The aquarium is open from 10am to 5.30pm on all days except second Tuesdays of the month.

Bagh-e-Bahu Aquarium in Jammu

Being the largest underground aquarium in India, Bagh-e-Bahu is not to be missed here. From the fish shaped entrance of the aquarium to the exotic range of fishes displayed here, the aquarium is a treat to the eyes. Located on a hilltop, it also offers the best views of its surroundings too!
