Located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, Manikgad is a beautiful hill fort which was built during the early 18th century by a chief of the Maratha Navy to guard upon the trade route of Pune. However, after a few years, it was captured by other forces and remained under their control.

It was ruled by several other forces including the British. Today, Manikgad Fort is famous amongst tourists as a trekking and camping destination. However, it is also visited by several history lovers. The nearest village from where you need to trek up the hill to reach the fort is Vadgaon, which is located at a distance of about 60 km from Mumbai. By Air: The nearest airport to the fort is located in Mumbai at a distance of about 65 km. Once you have reached Mumbai, it is better to hire a cab to reach the base village, Vadgaon. You can also use public transport to reach the base of the fort.

By Rail: You can take a direct train to Mumbai railway station and then from there, you can either hire a taxi or use the public transport to reach Vadgaon. It takes an average time of about 2 h 30 min to reach the top of the fort from Vadgaon.

By Road: Vadgaon is well connected to other towns and cities by road. Hence, you can easily approach it by road.
