Battle in Water? Yeah, a big battle with oars instead of swords! Asia's largest whitewater festival is here, and we can see the participants from 20 different countries battling it out in the gushing waters of Iruvanjippuzha river. It is the time for the annual Malabar River Festival 2016 in Kodancherry, Kozhikode.

Malabar River Festival is one-of-its-kind in South India, which takes water adventure to a different level. The date of Malabar River Festival 2016 is from from July 28 to July 31st in Kerala. This annual 4-day festival brings world-class Kayakers to compete in the course of Thusharagiri Falls.

Iruvanjippuzha river tumbles down as Thusharagiri Falls amidst the beautiful Western Ghats in Kozhikode. The nearby town of Kodancherry is the venue for the mindblowing whitewater festival.

Malabar River Festival is also touted as one the biggest Kayak Festivals which happens in Kerala. Professional Kayakers from around the globe participate in the challenging Kayaking competition.

Coming to the venue, Kodancherry is a small town about 52km from Calicut (Kozhikode). It is well-connected to other cities. Thamarasserry is another town near to Kodancherry.

Interesting Fact About Kodancherry: It is called as mini Kottayam because many of them are from the region of Kottayam.

How To Reach Kodancherry

Kodancherry is 52km from Calicut (Kozhikode) and about 330km from Bengaluru (Bangalore).

  • By Road: Kodancherry connects through NH66, which passes through Calicut. Many buses travel every day from Bangalore (Bengaluru) to Calicut. Closest bus stop to Kodancherry is Advaram which is 6kms away.
  • By Train: Calicut Railway Station is the nearest rail route.
  • By Air: Calicut Airport is the nearest airport. Or Cochin Airport which is 200km from Kodancherry.
