Major Landmarks of Kerala

Every city or a destination would have a landmark that represents that place. If Chennai Central railway station is for Chennai, it's the Pamban bridge for Rameswaram. Similarly, Kerala has its own landmarks for each district.

All the 14 districts of Kerala have landmarks that make them unique from the rest. Let's travel from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargode and know about the major landmarks of Kerala.

Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple

1. Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Thiruvananthapuram
Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple is one of the most popular attractions of district. The temple is located at the heart of the Thiruvananthapuram city and the residing deity here is Lord Vishnu. Here's more information about the temple.

2. Krishnapuram Palace, Alleppey
This historical palace is located near Kayamkulam in Alleppey district. The palace is named after the adjacent temple of Krishnapuram. The erstwhile King of Travancore Anizham Thirunal Martanda Varma had built the single storey palace structure to preserve the traditional styles of architecture of the land.

3. Punalur Suspension Bridge, Kollam
On a visit to Kollam, this suspension bridge is not to be missed as it is one of the major landmarks of the district and also a wonderful piece of architecture. Interestingly, this bridge was made so that humans can commute without the intrusion of wild animals.

4. Vimalagiri Cathedral, Kottayam
Vimalagiri Cathedral is one of the famous churches in Kerala. The Gothic architecture of the church is spellbinding. The cathedral is popularly known as Angathattu Palli.

5. Aranmula Parthasaradhy Temple, Pathanamthitta
Located on the banks of the river Pamba, Aranmula Parthasaradhy Temple is one of the major landmarks of the district of Pathanamthitta. The temple is built in circular shape and is dedicated to Lord Parthasaradhy, an avatar of Lord Krishna.

6. Idukki Arch Dam, Idukki
Idukki Arch Dam is one of the best attractions to visit in India. This arch dam is the first of its kind in Asia and second in the world. It is built between Kuravanmala and Kurathimala on the river Periyar. Here's more about this beautiful landmark.

7. Marine Drive, Kochi
Built on the same lines of the Marine Drive in Mumbai, the one in Kochi is also one worth visiting. One of the major landmarks of the district, Marine Drive is a place where the crowd comes to relax after their long days of work.

8. Vadakkumnathan Temple, Thrissur

9. Malampuzha Dam, Palakkad

10. Chamravattam Bridge, Malappuram
This bridge is built across Bharathappuzha near Chamravattam in Malappuram district. It is one of the major landmarks and also one of its kind in Kerala. The bridge was inaugurated in 2012, though the project was conceptualised as much earlier.

11. Mananchira, Kozhikode
This manmade fresh water pond is one of the known landmarks of Kozhikode district. Built in 14th century, this rectangular pond is fed by a natural spring.

12. Pazhassi kudeeram (Tomb of Pazhassi Raja), Wayanad
The tomb was Pazhassi Raja, who was one of the Indian freedom fighters, is located in Mananthavady in Wayanad district. The tomb and Pazhassi Raja Archaeological Museum are worth a visit.

13. St. Angelo Fort (Kannur Fort), Kannur
