The bi-annual Lal Bagh Flower Show 2016 is going on in Bangalore. Each year the flower shows are organised during the months of January and August as a part of Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations respectively.
The Department of Horticulture and Mysore Horticultural Society jointly organises the flower festivals. The January edition of the Flower Show has started from 16th and goes on till 26th in Bangalore.
Lal Bagh Botanical Garden is one of the major tourist places in Bangalore. It was initially established by Hyder Ali in 1760. Later, his son Tippu Sultan developed the garden extensively.
Further, Lal Bagh became an experimental ground for botanists during the British era. It was at this time that it gained the status of Botanical Garden.
This year's Republic Day edition of the show is the 203rd flower show in Bangalore. The theme for the flower festival is dedicated to Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel, the German botanist who was responsible for the exotic landscape designing of Lal Bagh.
It was G.H. Krumbiegel who brought in a good garden planning for Lal Bagh and also greener pastures to Bangalore. This National Flower Festival marks G.H. Krumbiegel's 150th birth anniversary.
