The valley of Kinnaur is filled with the imperial mountains, the lush greenery, enchanting rivers, orchards and some vineyards. Kinnaur lies in close quarters to Tibet, which contributes heavenly to the culture of the people here.
The place is also known as the land of fairy tales, as it remains blanketed in snow for almost six months every year, which is kind of similar to the well-known valleys of Spiti and Lahaul. Kinnaur is divided into two major valleys namely the Sangla and the Hangrang.
The valley of Sangla is well known for its orchards and plantations, and Hangrang is a valley of simply nothing but widespread lush greenery alongside the regal Kinner Kailash peak, which plays a very important role in the lives of the people of Kinnaur.
The valley of Sangla is often seen as a one-stop destination for the lovers of rafting, para-gliding and angling, apart from trekking and a host of various other adventure sports. The villages in Kinnaur are found in the higher altitudes, some of them scaling heights of almost 4000 meters.

Kinnaur is one of those high-altitude destinations that can be visited during any time of the year. However, to squeeze the best out of this place, one should visit here during the months starting from April to October.
How To Reach?
By Air: The nearest airport is the Jubbarhatti Airport at Shimla, which is around 267 km from here. The airport is well connected to major cities across the country with regular ones from Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
By Train: The nearest major railhead is the Kalka Railway Station, which is around 356 km away from Kinnaur. There are plenty of taxis that one can hire from here and reach Kinnaur.
By Road: Kinnaur is well connected by roads, which is also one of the best ways to reach the place from the cities of Delhi, Chandigarh and Shimla.
What To See In Kinnaur?
1. Rakchham Chitkul Wildlife Sanctuary
The sanctuary is perched at altitudes ranging from 3200 to 5500 metres, and it is home to a large variety of flora and fauna. The snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, blue sheep, etc., are some of the animals that can be spotted here. The sightings of the snow leopards are relatively rare when compared to the others.
2. Pooh or Spuwa
Spuwa is known for its grape orchards, and apricots and almonds that are available here. Visit this place not only for its exotic fruits but also for its lush greenery, which tends to grab any visitor's attention. The place is also well known for the Buddhist monasteries of Kangyar, Galdang and Chhoiker Dunguir.
3. Tibetan Wood Carving Center

The wood carving center is one of the major attractions amongst the visitors here. The center exhibits some of the finest examples of wood carvings in the Tibetan style. One could also purchase these marvelous beauties!
4. Baspa River

The Baspa River is one of the most scenic rivers that flows through the Himalayan ranges. Along its banks in Kinnaur, one can find apple orchards and crystal-clear streams, which is an add on to the snow-covered peaks. The river is also consider as one of the hotspots for angling in the region.
