Maharashtra is a state blessed with Konkan beaches dotting throughout its border. Settled between two hillocks, Kashid is a picturesque beach town of Maharashtra. Since it is located just about 130 km from Mumbai and 170 km from Pune, Kashid makes for a fantastic weekend getaway destination.

Kashid beach glitters with clear turquoise blue water that is fringed with white sands at the shore. It has a 3 km long beach that is scattered with Casuarina plants.

A long walk in this beach will surely leave you refreshed and charged for a new week! Many fantastic hotels and resorts are available in Kashid beach. Weekends might be a little crowded, however the beach is mostly deserted during the week.

Revdanda Fort

As a reminder to the history of Portuguese invasion in India, Revdanda Fort lies around 13 km from Kashid. The fort which is also known as Revdanda Aagarkot, was built in the 1558 CE. The isolated fort is surrounded with black sand and even though the fort is now in ruins, it remains as a beautiful relic of the Portuguese rule and adds a rustic touch to the beach.

Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary

Located around 12 km from Kashid is the quiet Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary. In order to preserve the coastal ecosystem of the Western Ghats, this sanctuary was founded in 1986. The sanctuary is home to many animals like Sambhar, Wild Boar, Hyena, etc. It also houses some exotic birds therefore is a great spot for bird-watching.

Korlai Fort

Similar to the Revdanda Fort, Korlai fort is another fortification which belonged to the era of Portuguese. This fort was built in order to guard the Revdanda creek. Constructed in 1521, the fort has eleven gates- 4 exterior gates and 7 interior gates. The fort now stands as a ruin due to many attacks, but it certainly beautifies the beach till date.

Kashid beach town has a tropical climate throughout the year. However, since summer might get too hot during the day, the winter months of October to February is perfect to visit Kashid. The weather is pleasant and balmy during this season.

The high tides of the Kashid beach serves as a great location for water sports such as banana boat rides, parasailing, jet skiing, scuba diving, sea kayaking, speed boating, to name a few out of the many sports available! Many local services are available to facilitate these beach sports, at the shore of the beach.

You may pitch a camp on the shores of Kashid beach. Make sure to camp at a spot farther from the beach to avoid the advancing waves. You can even plan for a barbeque party if you are visiting the beach with a huge group!

How To Reach Kashid

By Air: Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport at Mumbai is the closest to Kashid. It is connected to all major cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, etc. From here, Kashid is just a 4 hour drive.

By Rail: The closest rail-head to Kashid is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Station at Mumbai. It connects to all the major cities of India such as Pune, Ahmedabad etc.

By Road: Pune is at a distance of 171 km while Mumbai is just 128 km from Kashid. A drive to the beach will take around 4 hours from both the cities, and can be done either through hiring a taxi, driving a personal vehicle or catching an inter-city bus.
