Where is Kanger National Park?

Kanger Ghati National Park is around 20km from Jagdalpur in Chattisgarh. Jagdalpur is a city in the Bastar region of Chattisgarh. It is also a tourist destination with a number of attractions like Teerathgarh Falls, Kotumsar Cave, Chitrakote Falls, etc.

History of Kanger Ghati National Park

Kanger Ghati National Park, also known as Kanger Valley National Park covers an area of 200 square kilometer. It was declared as a national park in 1982 owning to the diverse flora and fauna.

Attractions in Kanger Ghati National Park

The picturesque stretch of the biosphere reserve has a lot to offer for the visitors. Along with the vibrant wildlife, there are other attractions like waterfalls and unique rock formations. You can also catch a glimpse of tribal people as there are some settlements of tribes in the reserve.

The dense jungles of Kanger houses many animals like jackals, rhesus macaque, tiger, leopard, striped hyena, monitor lizards, pythons and so on. It also has numerous species of avifauna and is mainly famous for Bastar Hill Myna.

Since the region has diverse habitats from thick trees, marshy lands, grasslands and hilly regions, the national park supports various species of animal and plant life.

Caves formed out of limestone deposits like Kotamsar and Kailash Caves are some of the prominent tourist places in Kanger National Park.

Rock Formations

Among various attractions, these geological rock formations are interesting to explore. These formations are divided into groups called Cuddapah and Vidhyan group of rock formations.

Thirathgarh Falls

Thiragthagarh Falls is yet another attraction situated inside Kanger National Park. Fondly known as the 'Milky Way', this waterfalls is a major attraction here.

How to Reach Kanger National Park

Kanger National Park is near to the city of Jagdalpur. It is accessible by road from Jagdalpur. Visitors can hire private vehicles or local transport to reach the national park.

Kanger National Park is a unique wonder for sure! There is lot to explore inside the reserve along with wildlife. Hence it is one of the top destinations in Chattisgarh.
